From Boston, here is good news, bad news for dieters. Weight loss programs that use counseling, result in a 6% reduction in weight at the one year point. Short-term weight loss does have health benefits. It lowers blood pressure and cholesterol.
From Cleveland, a new blood test may tell you whether you're at high risk for developing a heart attack. Researchers have shown that MPO, a protein released by white blood cells signaling inflammation maybe linked to heart disease and stroke.
And finally from Italy, add sore throats and cavities to the list of things, potentially wine can cure. According to Italian researchers, wine is an effective antimicrobial agent that is effective against various strains of streptococcus. And similar to cardiac disease prevention, red wine is better than white.
