How many megapixels should my digital camera have? You really don’t want to go under six. Six is pretty much where you want to be at, 6, 7, 8. My cameras here in the studio are 12. If I were to buy a point and shoot camera to carry around at parks with my family, 6 megapixels or 7 would be great because I’m not going to print anything bigger than that. Your larger megapixels are for billboards. I mean, you can spend $33,000 on a digital back just to get billboard sized prints. But if that’s not your goal, you don’t need it.
