How the Climate Affects Arthritis Charlie: I'm Charlie from Stephens City, Virginia. What is the best climate to live in if you suffer from arthritis? Dr. Mary Wasko: Charlie, the relationship between climate and arthritis has never been very well explained in the medical literature. But virtually, any arthritis doctor that you encounter to whom you might pose that question would tell you that many patients do describe changes in their arthritis symptoms, the severity of their stiffness or soreness or pain related to changes in weather. Some people describe any change an ambient temperature or humidity as being a precipitating factor in worsening of arthritis symptoms. Not everyone describes this and if I had to target a specific climate in which you might favor the best in a general sense, it would be one with fairly dry air or low humidity as well as a warm ambient temperature.
