Audra Lowe: The music industry, as we all know is shifting into the digital age
and some stars are embracing the change but others have some
very different views on how technology has helped and hurt the
business. Rhiannon has the story.
Rhiannon: Downloading dominates the music industry and while it took some
time, labels and artists are now fully on board.
Taylor Swift: Change is good. change is inevitable so I would always be of the
school where you get behind change.
Rob Thomas: It’s making music more accessible and so we had to find ways to
embrace that.
Rhiannon: The music from the Hope for Haiti Telethon broke sales records
and became the first download only album to reach number one on
the Billboard Chart.
Lady Gaga was top digital artist of the year, thanks to fans who
downloaded 15 million songs. In this week, Lady Antebellum shot
to number one on the country chart, propelled by more than 5
million downloads.
Charles Kelly: We've been really, really fortunate that our first few years out of
the gate has been this great. I mean we never could have scripted
it.
Josh Groban: We can get songs immediately as we are inspired to get them,
which is helpful. You know, the part that maybe is not so helpful is
the fact that it’s very hard now to trace who’s getting what.
Mary J. Blige: The viral effect is a great thing. I don’t know about the
downloading and the stealing of the music.
Harry Connick, Jr. It doesn’t really concern me. I just kind of keep working and so
what I do. For the younger generation of musicians, I'm sure it’s a
great concern but I just do what I do, man and if something
becomes popular, it’s great and if it doesn’t—
