How big is Ergonomics? But is more general comfort around your desk or work station. I got a top five tips of comfort at your desk submitted by Internet Knot. He has done another top five list related to offices and workstation. This time it is all about comfort. You got to be comfortable, when you are in front of your computer or you are working on your computer you got to be comfortable because if you are not comfortable, it is not going to be a good experience, right?
And, all of these ideas come into play when it comes to you and your office and our workstation and this is my home office.
Tip number one: Take hourly breaks if not more frequently. It is important to take time away from the computer so you do not damage your eyes. Read a chapter in a book maybe do the dishes if your wife tells you to even though you do not want to and they are still piling up and you are going to hold of for another week. You know random things that have nothing to do with my life.
You know, it is going to cause less pain and strain if you get up and move every so often. In relation to this, the screen is also important being in a good distance from the screen, they say the best position for you in the screen and you eye should actually be eye line if you look straight ahead it should towards the top of the monitor and you should not be looking down, never up, that is important.
The type of monitor you have is important as well. An LCD does not have a refresh rate so it is going to be less strain in your eyes and it would be with a traditional CRT, traditional. I guess LCDs are traditional now too some made them out there. You know, another thing to keep in mind too is your prescription.
I am near sided and just yesterday you cannot tell but I got a new prescription for my right eye and I am seeing just as well as I was before if not better, in fact, I think I am seeing even more clearly because my prescription needs to be bumped up just a tiny bit but that tiny bit made all the difference. So, check your prescription if you have not visited the eye doctor this could be causing the strain too not just this. So, there is a lot of things that are combined with the eyes and with the monitor in your relation to your comfort at your desk.
Number two: Use any tools or features or equipment that can help ensure comfort. For instance, if you have a keyboard with a wrist rest then this will allow you relax while typing, if you have a mouse pad with a wrist rest that may also help, etc.
I do not really like wrist rest, I have never been comfortable with them largely because we are kind of talking about the beginning of the video with Uncle John, I love the keyboard tray as long as it is at the right height. And, the right height for a keyboard tray is in a comfortable position, never too high and never too low but just very comfortable.
And because of that, wrist rest typically gets in my way. I may rest my palms to a certain degree but wrist rest always make my hand curve oddly and it makes it more difficult for me to type in those situations. You know, finding your keyboard that is comfortable is important as well. Some people like the natural split keyboards; I cannot stand them, that is just me.
The idea though is just to be comfortable in general and have something, if you are still computing on a regular table. You might consider spending a few extra pennies on a dedicated computer desk. Some kind of desk that was dedicated for computing, it is very important. And also I should say, the chair as well people ask about my chair all the time. I wish sold these things because that will make so much money, I will be making a living off on selling my chair because these things are awesome.
I got it locked in a position right now where I am actually sitting forward so my butt is not, I have talked about this before, well not my butt specifically but I am saying I am slanted, slanted downwards so I am forced to kind of sit up straight so my neck, you know, rest nicely against the neck rest. I am not slouched. I am comfortable. It is a really good experience for sitting down for some extended period of time but not beyond an hour.
Do not position your equipment out of reach when you are finished typing you need to use a mouse and make sure that is close by so you do not have to stretch over to grab it. I have had situations where I have to do that it has been horrible. I had my mouse on top of my desk and then have to switch back here, back over here, back over here. Luckily this keyboard tray on this desk which I can sit a mouse right next to it and be just fine even going across these large monitors I have had no issue with it at all.
Number four: Do not use a computer if you are well-attired or under the influence of anything like alcohol or some kind of depressant. Well, alcohol is slowing down your reactions and it may do something that you did not need to do. Do not realize or worse knock over the beer on your keyboard. Also, if you are tired and get irritated, you cannot perform at your best when using a computer, it will cause stress and if you cannot perform when you are using a computer your work maybe affected.
Besides, you do not want to cause an extra bug in that program which could be perfect with a good night sleep. Eight hours, eight hours a day man and I know I am the worst at this, I am always up late at night because I am doing so much stuff and then of course I wake up later than the day that is why you do not see me doing videos up until, I do not even know it, it is late, it is very late. Sleep is very important, do not be tired.
Number five: sit up right. I am sure you have enough leg room and your feet are positioned so they are flat on the ground. Also, make sure your chair is at the right height so you can easily reach the keyboard and the mouse. And, you know, as I said I mentioned with my chair that you can buy rule number one, first chair that you can probably sit in is like a kitchen a chair or a chair that was an executive chair. It may look nice, it may look cool, and you may think you are fancy in an executive chair but it is the worst thing that you could sit in.
