Hi! I’m Danny Gill from lick library. And in this lesson, I’m going to show you how to add harmonics to your rhythm playing. So here is the little song we’re going to learn.
[Demonstration]
So the underlined chord progression is simply E-minor to C. I’m going to start of with this phrase.
[Demonstration]
Open low E string and slides 7 to 9 on the D-string. High E- string open followed by the open B-string and if we put that together. Now, open low E followed by the 9th fret of the D string. And now, I’m going to get some harmonics at 12th fret of the high E-string, 12th fret of the B string. And to get harmonics, simply lightly place your finger directly above the fret. So you don’t need to press down on the fret, just lightly place your finger directly above the fret. So here is what we’ve done so far.
[Demonstration]
So that was identical to the first phrase but the last two notes will be a harmonic on the 12th fret of the B string followed by harmonic on the 12 fret of the G string. So here is what we’ve done so far.
[Demonstration]
So here, we’re going to start of with the note C, 8th fret of the low E string, and then I’ill hammer on 7to 9 on the D string.
[Demonstration]
High E string open followed by the open B string, 8th on the low E followed by 9 on the D. Now, harmonic on the 7th fret of the B string followed by a harmonic on the 7th fret of the G-string. So here is the phrase that we’ve just learned. And the final phrase it sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
So here we’ll start of on the 8th fret of the low E string and then hammer on 7 to 9 on the D string. High E string open, B string open, 10th fret of the low E-string followed by harmonics. 7th fret on the D strings, 7th fret on the G-string, 7th fret B string. And then we can end the whole piece by playing harmonics on the 12th fret of the top 4 strings. So, let us try that together now. Here we go.
[Demonstration]
And that is one way of adding some harmonics t your rhythm playing.
