Michael: Custom feature in the bathroom, are no longer can fine that custom upgrades. Using the same valves and plumbing that are standard in any American home. You can now add a little luxury in the shower without spending a lot of money. We look at the benefits of installing additional shower heads and dual directional jet sprays to a shower with a standard forming configuration. Angie Coffman of the Delta faucet walks us through the features and installation issues.
Angie, a lot of people think it’s not possible that have a system like this in their new home or their existing home but it really is isn’t?
Angie: It’s very tangibly, yes.
Michael: Tell us a little bit about and how to installs and how actually works.
Angie: Okay. Well, as you can see this is a standard valve. This is our 1700 series valve that separates that volume from the temperature. So, turning it on like this controls the volume and then right here you have the temperature. So, this is a standard valve, half-inch valve. What we done is, enhance to this standard valve by adding the jets. And the jets deliver each an additional one and a half count per minute. They rotate 30 degrees and basically they deliver a blanket of water and that blanket comes out in a cone shape of 12 inches wide. And depending on the use whether you’re taller, shorter, you can turn it and you can narrow that to three inches.
So, again depending on whether you like it, if you’re taller or shorter or wider thinner you can have the enhanced our situation and the controller with a finger tip.
Michael: Okay and then here I see one two and three, so you can just run the shower head or you can run all of it together.
Angie: It’s actually combination, correct. So, you can turn on your shower its normal, have water coming out and then you can choose to have the jets alone and have the blanket of water alone or you can combine the two. So, then you have the blanket of water along with your regular standard shower head.
Michael: I like that. Tell me about the standard valve. You said, you start with the standard valve so, to me that means it doesn’t cause a lot more. You start with standard.
Angie: Exactly you’re right. So, this is our 1700 series valve that you would put with you know anything that is typical. And what we’ve done is, in the manufacturing plan, we’ve prefab that with this one piece right here so that you get this as your valve basically. So, what you typically cut as your hole, you now just cutting a larger hole yet still having the same piping situation.
Michael: The same typical half-inch pipe?
Angie: Within a half-inch pipe, you’re correct. Not three quarter inch.
Michael: These plumbers are installing the delta jetted shower valve in this shower in the early stages of construction. The valve is designed that fit with the half-inch pipe that is standard in most new and existing homes. The plumbers prepare the valves for installation then fill it with copper pipe and fittings and determine the exact placement within the framing.
After a few minor adjustment to the framing, its time to extend the hot and cold water lines to the valve location. The former makes another slight adjustment to the framing and the valve fits right in place. Next, the plumber solders the joints then installs the final components in this delta jetted showers ready to go. The jetted shower system is also designed for use in existing homes.
Okay so, it doesn’t have to be new construction if you have an existing shower and you like to add a couple of shower heads, a plumber could go back and there and cut this into your line which part of the guide.
Angie: You’re correct. This is a great remodeling valve. It’s perfect for that.
Michael: Okay so, it’s not very expensive to install and new constructions not going to cost much either because it’s really just those extra jetts, it’s the standard valve.
Angie: That’s correct and going beyond the jets, it’s the drain, you don’t have to have a larger drain. You don’t have the three-quarter inch valve behind the wall and then you don’t have to have the additional water heaters or larger water heaters. So, in the long run and in the short run the actual application your saving money, but then in the long you’re saving money too because this is only delivering a gallon and half out of each jetts, a total of three gallons per minute. So, you’re not—it’s not a ton of water coming out.
Michael: That’s great. Now, imagine the colors and furnishes, there is in endless choices there.
Angie: Endless choices, within the delta line, we have this on a Victorian and innovations and we have a variety of colors as well.
Michael: Okay and since its not expensive, really you can add this to every bathroom then have to just be the master.
Angie: Certainly, a lot of places where we want to go with a total escape type system, total body spray in the master bath and then in a guest or a children’s don’t go with this jetted shower or even on jetted excel.
Michael: Well, seems nice to having and what I like best about is, isn’t very inexpensive to add this.
Angie: As I said, very easy step up, minimal step for this particular unit.
