Do you have a room that's just screaming out texture details, well we did. We took this top heavy dining room and transformed it, all with raised paneling.
Now traditionally you could use wide skirting chair but that can be very expensive. Just a little bit of paneling is an inexpensive way to do the same effect for less than a $100 and in half a day.
If you have a look at this what we went for is a really nice simple molding, has nice round edges. This is going to tie perfectly with some of the existing detail. Now standard chair goes at 32 inches. So we are going to put down molding at 32 inches simulating chair row running round the rooms, but at a quarter of the price.
Because we want crisp lines with the detail on the wall, a nice crisp white is the way to go for us. So what I am going to do to save time is cut all the vertical pieces, they are all exactly of the same height. The only thing it's going to change is the width of the actual panels. That's the key.
Now the key to making this look amazing is having a perfectly leveled head, that is the top piece of material running around the room.
We chose a rectangular style. What that's going to do is elongated walls making you feel like the rooms look random. Now as you can see that literally took me five minutes to do. Now I am going to replicate this throughout the room.
The height is going to stay the same, the whole way through this job. But because the walls changing dimension the sizes are going to change in width.
When I first walked in this room was very top heavy, but I think what we did is even things out. By adding the subtle molding that has the illusion of traditional wide skirting, we really brought the attention back down to the bottom half of the room. The transition between the two colors makes these panels really pop.
Now there is a great symmetrical feel. And I think you'll agree, for $96 and half a day, this is a room you really want to spend some time in.
