Hello YouTube and welcome to another exciting episode of techsupportgonebad. Today, what I am going to be teaching you is how to actually add widgets to your website. Now for those of you who do not know what a widget is, it is basically something like this. A widget could range from anything from an actual MP3 player on your website or something fun you could play with a game, stuff like that.
So the reason I made this video is because a lot of people have been asking me how to add widgets to your website and as you could see where here I added this YouTube Widget to my website and the tutorial section of my website to be exact. And basically you could look through all my videos and if you like one press play and it just start playing. It is just simple as that. It’s super awesome!
So the first thing you want to do to actually get a widget is go to Google. The link to Google gadgets would be on video description. Google’s custom gadgets, some people called it widgets. So basically there is a lot of stuff, a lot of widgets or gadgets that you could choose from. There is a thing range from World Clocks, live television channels, a mini web Clock and Date, a Map. So let us say I want a Clock and Date, just click Add to you webpage.
So to actually add this, the first stuff you could change around some stuff like settings so the title let say I want to be Clock. You could change the width and the height, but I would leave it as its preset settings. You could change the border, for example, on my techsupportgonebad website; I change the border to green to match the green theme of my website. You could change the clock title. I just leave that as “Clock and Date”. You could change time format, display seconds and whole bunch of stuff. The settings will range from gadget to gadget and then once you like it just click on Get the Code.
The html code to the gadget is right there. So now, select it all, right click then Select all then copy it and then enter it into Dreamweaver wherever you want. In this case, I have already entered it, so preview it. This is actual the tutorial section of my website again. There you go the widget.
So now let us say if we want to enter this clock. So what I do, I click on Split and then choose the place where I want to enter it. For example, I want to enter right after the Tutorials, right click and press Paste then Preview Firefox or F12 and Save Changes and then Yes. And there you have it. The clock is right there. It says “Good Night!” As I said, you could mess with the setting, you could change the time. See right now, the Timezone is in the wrong Timezone. You could change anything that you want
Google gives you the html just like that and there are lots of different places where you actually get different gadgets and widgets for your website. You could get it from Yahoo; there is a wide bridge of places that you can get widgets. And this is just one of them. This is actually my favorite place to get widgets, Google.
Hope you learned something today and goodbye.
