Sometimes when you create a chart in Microsoft Excel, you’ll find that the data labels actually obscure the data point in the chart. If this is the case you can draw a data table beneath the chart that shows the worksheet data for easy reference.
To add the worksheet data first, select your chart. You’ll see on the top navigation just by selecting the chart where in the section for Chart Tool, so we’re going to choose Layout from the top navigation, and then the labels group we’ll open the menu for Data Table.
You’ll see three options in this menu. We can show the Data Table which will appear at the bottom of the chart. We can show the Data Table with the legend keys or we can customize the options we want to use. You can change the fill or the borders, add a 3D effect and make the table look exactly the way you want, but I’m going to keep it simple.
So, let me close that up here and go back to my menu to choose Show Data Table there you go. The Data Table is visible beneath my bar chart and of course, you can drag the corners to resize the chart if you want to make it easier to read. If after all that, you decide you don’t want the Data Table after all, just highlight your chart and go back into the Layout tab and open the Data Table menu again and select None.
