How to Add a Pond to Your Garden

(Background Music) Gordon: Ponds are becoming more and more popular every year and for the most part, home gardeners can put them in quite easily. But every one once in a while, you got a big job and you need a professional. And I am here with Aaron Wing from Shibusa Pond. Hi Aaron? Aaron: Hi Gordon. Gordon: When you got a job that this big and this is quite impressive, where do you start with something like this? Aaron: Well, first of all I meet with the clients and figure out what there after out of there landscape. The second is putting it out on paper. So we would start with the concept plan and we come present it to the client s and see how there feeling are and, maybe we do it one, two maybe three times until we come up to something we can agree with. And from there, we start going out it. (Laughing) Gordon: Well, I saw your plan on paper and it is looks pretty impressive. And what I notice is when I saw it on paper and then I came out here and saw before you actually done anything, you have to bring a lot of soil in? A lot of rock and to try to build up the foundation, it is that something that is normal in the plan the size? Aaron: No, this situation was a little different. We are dealing bed rock and we are dealing with grades stapering away, so we actually to build up a back side of this, of this area in order to flatten a surface for the water feature. So, there was probably about 50 times bowlers and over 50 yards of top soil as well brought in. Gordon: Now, obviously you are not going to muscle those things in a position, what kind of equipment are you going to need to hold from those boulders in place? Aaron: Well, we have a five time crane truck and we also use excavators to move some of the larger bolder around. In this case situations, we actually oversize the excavator, (Laughing) Just in case we ended up running into bedrock where a pond was supposed meant to be. Gordon: Bigger the better. Aaron: Yes.
