How to Address the In-Laws

It has to do with your husband’s parents. You live with their son, you vowed, you do and now, you’re officially part of the family but what do you call his folks? Well, today we’re examining how to address the in-laws. Scenario number one, for many women, the easiest the answer is not to call their in-laws anything. They just address them in terms of their husband. For instance, Alex’s mom is a great cook or Alex’s dad always captures the biggest fish but this doesn’t always work so well in every situation. Julie: Hi! Bill’s father, this is Bill’s wife, is Bill’s mother there? Scenario number two, how about this approach to the name game? Does you husband had any married brothers and sisters? If so, listen very carefully what do they call your in-laws and you can simply do the same. Julie: Oh, Susan. Hi! Susan: Oh, hi! Welcome to the family! Julie: Thanks. Hey, I want to ask you, what do you call Bill’s mother? Susan: Oh, you mean the meddling matriarch? What do I call that Battle Axe? Oh, the master manipulator. Mrs. Smith: Oh! Well, here’s where you ladies went to. Hello Julie. Julie: Hello. Tiffany: Scenario number three, of course the easiest approach to finding out what to call your in-laws is the direct approach. Simply ask what they’d like you to call them. Mrs. Smith: That’s him at his very first City Hawkins’s dance, so cute. Julie: I know this sounds a little silly but now that Bill and I are married, I was wondering if it would be okay if I started to call you Mom. Mrs. Smith: I feel very comfortable with you calling me Mrs. Smith. Let’s just keep the status quo the same. All right Leslie? Julie: Just Julie.
