How to Adjust Image Resolution in Photoshop CS3

When you’re working with an image, you may want to change the resolution of an image. And how you determine what the resolution should be really depends on how you’re going to use the image. If you’re simply just going to view it in Photoshop or put it on a website, you’re going not have to have a really high resolution for it to look good. Now, if you’re printing it, it’s going to require a higher resolution. And it’s something that you’re going to have to experiment with a little bit to see what type of resolution you’re going to need for however you’re using it.

How you change an image resolution is go ahead and go up to image and then go to image size. And then down here under document size is the resolution. Now, 72 pixels per inch is pretty average. You can go ahead and you can change it, and I recommend changing that kind of a little at a time to see what it’s going to look like. If you want a higher resolution, then you could go ahead and change it to something higher.

Now, also the higher the resolution, the biggest your file size you’re going to have. So keep that in mind. That’s one reason why you can’t just set a really high image resolution. But you could go ahead and you could try to go down a little bit and it will save you some file space. At the same time, your picture will look just as good at a lower resolution. So it’s something to experiment with so you can get whatever is right for whatever you’re going to use your image for.
