You can adjust your iPod’s volume to suit your preferences. Because an iPod is quite loud when you set it to its highest volume, it’s recommended that you turn down the volume before using headphones.
To adjust the volume for an iPod Touch, play a song on your iPod. While the content plays, touch the lower portion of the display. The volume slider appears at the bottom of the display underneath the playback controls. Slide the silver knob with your finger to the right to increase the volume or to the left to decrease the volume. You can set the maximum volume for your iPod Touch to be lower than its maximum capacity. This can help protect your hearing.
To set the new maximum, choose Settings from the main menu, choose Music and then choose volume limit. A volume slider with a silver knob appears. Slide the knob with your finger to the right to increase the volume or to the left to decrease it. when you have your new limit picked out, touch the iPod button to accept the new limit without locking it permanently. You’ll return to the main menu. If you don’t want this volume limit to be password protected, you’re all done.
If you want to make this change permanent for your iPod, touch the lock volume limit button. Your iPod displays four squares where you can enter a code number. The lock is useful for locking the volume limit so others can’t change it. However, it also means that you have to enter the volume limit code to unlock the iPod in order to change the volume limit.
Touch the calculator style number pad to enter numbers for the code and be sure to make up a code that you remember.
