I have an image here that I have some sunflowers but they’re a little green color, they’re a little greenish and I’d really like to make them a little bit more yellow to make them really stand out. So one way I could do this is I can adjust the hue and the saturation that’s found within that yellow on my image. So to do this, go ahead and click to select the layer that you want to change the hue or saturation. In this case, I just have one layer because it’s just an image, and go ahead and go up to your image menu. Go to adjustments, and then go to hue and saturation and you’re going to get the hue and saturation dialog box.
Now one thing we have done here, I’m going to go ahead and do this first because I want to show it to you but not really use it in this one. Down here, I have the colorize option. If you click on colorize, then it’s going to go ahead and it’s going to put this really neat antique look to your image. So that’s a really neat way that you can get a more antique look to your image. However, it’s not what I want to use today. I’m going to go ahead and take that off.
Now, up here in the edit drop down menu, if you choose master, then you are going to change all of the colors, hue saturation and lightness at the same time. You can also click to select just certain colors in your image. Now, I’m really concerned about my yellow, so I’m going to go ahead and click on yellows right here. And I could go ahead and I can move the hue and this is going to change the actual color of my sunflowers. And you could see down here as well that I can move these and those are going to adjust the hue as well.
So let me go ahead and get this back to a yellow, try to get it a little bit brighter than it was before, and then saturation, you can go ahead and adjust. And this is going to be your color intensity. This is going to be how intense that color is. And to the right is going to make that color more intense. And you notice if you go too far, then it’s kind of—my grass is turning yellow. It’s kind of going a little overboard, so I’m going to go back a little bit and I think I’ll stay right here. It’s starting to look good.
Now, you also have the lightness and this is going to be contrast over to the left and it’s going to be less contrast over to the right. So I’m going to go ahead and move it and I’m getting a really bright yellow here. So once you’re happy with what the color looks like or your overall colors, your hue, your saturation, and your lightness, then go ahead and click OK and that would be applied to your image.
