Veronica: Hi1 I’m Veronica of WatchMojo.com and today we’re going to
find out anything there is to know about adopting a cat from the cat
shelter.
What is a cat shelter?
Sophie Tremblay: A cat shelter is a refuge for cats. This one specifically is for
abandoned and abused cats so it’s a place where they’re going to
be safe from the cold and from the all of the dangers of just being
outside.
Veronica: What happens to the cat once they arrived at the shelter?
Sophie Tremblay: First they go to an isolation room where they’re sterilized and
tested for diseases like Feline HIV and Leukemia and from there
they are either put in the infirmary if they are really sick or they’re
put into the appropriate room to them. We have different rooms for
every type of cat.
Veronica: What should people consider so they can avoid having their pet
here at the shelter?
Sophie Tremblay: People should definitely consider if they have the time and the
means to take care of a cat because it can be quite expensive
sometimes and they have to be really dedicated and safe proof their
home. I would suggest you should actually foster one to make sure
that you’re really going to be dedicated to it, that you’re going to
take the time to feed it change it’s litter and if they’re going to get
sick that you would be there for it and take it to a vet instead of just
leaving on the street because that happens all too often.
Veronica: What’s the difference between adopting an animal from a shelter
and just getting a kitten?
Sophie Tremblay: Just getting a kitten is usually from—they’re bred just because
kittens are cute and people want kittens but you never really know
the personality of the kitten. But if there is a cat especially the one
that has been in the shelter with more than a 150 volunteers that
see it everyday, it is going to be used to people and we are going to
be able to tell you if it is perfect for you and your family.
Veronica: Thank you very much.
Sophie Tremblay: You’re welcome.
