I have a letter from Bob and Red Deer, wanting to know just what he could do with his brown stained mahogany doors. To make them look in vogue because his wife would like to do some remodeling around the house and some decorating, and I thought maybe the best thing rather than salvaging and then getting rid of them, or painting them because again a painted door is just again a flat door. Well, why not take and make them look like heritage by using some moldings.
Now, the most important thing is when it comes to making the cuts, make sure that the total length of the mold is the total length of what the panel is going to be once applied to the phase of the door.
That way, it makes it awful lot easier when it comes to cutting your miters, because you always go from most extreme outside length to the inside. Which your miter cut a 45 degrees automatically details for you.
Now, you can see here what I have done, I have actually put a mark by penciling to give me the angle. That way, you are not going to be cutting on the wrong side when it comes to cutting your miters.
In to the miter, so let us do some cutting here, after we got all the moldings cut, how do we install them? Very simple, a little bit of white carpenters glue, white colored nails apply them on to the door phase and look, what we got. We got a beautiful heritage looking door.
A couple coats of Urethane make it look just like as good as not saves, your time, saves your money Bob. Why not give it a try?
