Chris Duke: I'm Chris Duke and today on Motorz I'm going to show you how to install a FR3 Handling Package from Ford Racing on a 2008 Ford Mustang GT.

Chris Duke: When it comes times to lowering your S197 Mustang there is a ton of options available out there on the market from racing kits that drop up the 250 pounds of in front of your vehicle to just lowering springs for that cool look and thankfully Ford racing engineers have created the solution for Mustang owners who are looking to get the best all around handling pack for their ride Fords FR3 Handling Pack was developed by the same engineers they've helped to build and test the FR500C the Boss 302 are one in the FR500S which have been proving at the track and even won the KONI Challenge Championship in 2005, 08 and 09.
The engineers at Ford Racing have devoted many hours at the track to ensure the best kit possible as well as to crank out the best performance and handling for your vehicle with kits available for the V6, GT, and GT500 Mustang. Now lot of vehicle owners want to lower their vehicles for handling and looks and it's really not as difficult what as you think even with some basic hand tools if you've got a weaken the spare and some help its definitely possible. So today on MOTORZ we're going to show you how to install the FR3 Handling Pack from Ford Racing on our 2008 Ford Mustang GT.
For this installation you're going to need a couple of jack stands as well as a low profile floor jack a couple of zip ties various extensions for your ratchets as well as some sockets ranging in size from five 16s all the way up to 13/16s in both metric as well as standard some wrenches also ranging in size from a quarter inch to three quarter a small medium and large ratchet some brake clean an impact gun, pair of pliers and some dikes some spring compressors, a preservation device, a torque wrench, a breaker bar, and a grease gun.
And you also going to need some Red Lock tie you're going to want to put this on every single nut that you torque down and things are going to rattle and come loose down the roads just but a little line on inside of it and tighten it down and when we come back from our break we'll get that rear sway bar off.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: After lifting up the rear of the vehicle we begin by using a 15 millimeter deep socket that removes the end like nut then on the lower mount remove these two 15 millimeter nuts as well.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Now that we have removed our rear sway bar we can finally get to our new springs and shocks from Ford Racing but before we install those you got to put your vehicle up on some jack stands and then take that jack and put it underneath your differential to give it some support then we're going to remove all of our brake components as well as the rear shocks so we can lower that axle that will give us the ability to remove the springs.
Now we need to disconnect all these brake components because once we drop the axle we don't want all these brake lines being tugged on so the first one we're going to disconnect it's our parking brake cable so grab a flat blade screwdriver and just pull up on this so you can pop that cable out right there. Then the next thing we're going to do is we're going to disconnect this ABS sensor line that popping along this black tab and disconnecting it back here with electrical connection is just pressing the tab on the back of it and that slides right on out just like that. And finally take a screwdriver over here press this tab out that releases that line. And once we done with that we can take our 15 millimeter socket and remove this brake caliber bracket and hang it up here with the zip tie.
To unbuilt the top of your shock open up your trunk and pull back this carpeting of your wheel a 15 millimeter so use that make sure of that and then a quarter inch to turn the top now we didn't have one long enough so we're going to use this cross wrench. And using a 15 millimeter socket you can remove the bolt on the bottom of the shock and you can lower that axle. There is a tip on removing these springs have a buddy press down on the axle just like that and you can get in there are out so little bit harder on the one side when you get to the other side it's going to cover that out just like that.
Just like the front spring the rear springs are little bit shorter for the right height you have got that progressive rate spring that's going to improve your handling install your new springs by putting them more tightly ssection at the top or you can just look at the text that's right here and it should be right side up. Then you can align your spring on your pad by using this listing mark then install the new shocks from Ford racing and you want to jack up your axle a little bit in order to get this alignment up here for this bolt. And tighten down your shocks and we'll start on the installation on our rear sway bar next to prepare the rear sway bar for installation then we first need to this N links so start by taking the bushing and using the provided grease to lubricate the inside of it just like this.
And then it's just kind a opens up and snaps on place the N links underneath and then take the provided N cap and tighten that down with the four millimeter X wrench. Now once you've gotten these tighten down its important to note these N links face the rear of the vehicle it should be like that I'll repeat on the other side. And install that rear sway bar at the N link right there and it's clamped right here with two bolts.
Tighten down your bolts and when we come back from out brake I'll show you how to grease these sway bars and reinstall our brake components and more.
MOTORZ.
Both of your sway bar have clamps they need to be greased this is how you do it grab your grease gun pop off the old cap that's on top of it with the help of your grease gun pop the full grease until you start to seeing it screwed out. And finally reinstall your rotors and all your other brake components. Moving on to the removal of the front sway bar I just grad an 18 millimeter wrench as well as eight millimeter wrench to remove this bolt off the N link but the eight millimeter over this post and hold in place while you loosen the 18 millimeter nut around it.
Then take a 15 millimeter deep socket and remove these nuts of the bottom of the sway bar. After removing this four lock nuts and disconnecting the N links we can safely remove the sway bar take a low profile floor jack put underneath this cross member right here put a couple of jack stands underneath your frame trail in order to install the new coil spring and strap from Ford Racing we have to get the stock one off first so we've got a few things we need to disconnect as well as remove the brake caliber and the brake rotor.
Begin by removing this three clip that's holding this ABS sensor line on you could use some pliers to do that then on the backside is a 10 millimeter bolt you need to remove that next we need to take care of this N link so grab an 18 millimeter breaker bar buzz that loose and once you've got that done grab an 18 millimeter wrench and a five 16s wrap around back it all the way out. Remove the brake caliber and bracket there is two bolts back there with the 15 millimeter socket an a breaker bar.
Now with all that stuff out of the way we can go ahead and remove our stock and coils so take a floor jack and put it underneath to support it and then in top side take a 13 millimeter socket and remove these four nuts right up on top
