Hi there, I am Nathan, and I am going to talk to you about how to answer a structured interview question with my friend Dan. Now, Dan and I are both young men living here in New York City and because that we have a lot of different jobs, a lot of interviews too. So, here are some simple questions that you can expect and we hope you find this helpful.
So, the very first question you probably going to get is something to the effective.
Nathan: So, how did you hear about us, what brings you here today?
Dan: I have some credit card debt that really is getting out of hand. I have bought a lot of things. Plus, you know, I have this girl that I have been … Anyway, regardless, I have been scouring everywhere in the New York Times, at Craig’s List, I have been … I am just desperate really, so to find yours and like to meet you as this awesome. I need this.
You got to want to make sure that when you are answering a question. You are honest, but you are not too honest. If you have been looking for a job for a long time you can say you are coming out of a transitional period. If you are really desperate for a job, you can really underline for them how committed you are to bringing a lot of energy to the work place, but you are not going to want to use the word “desperate”, you are not probably even do not want to use the word “money” when they ask you “What brings you to this particular company?”
Make it about as them, and your interest in what they have to offer. Before you start answering questions, you have to get ready that actually go to the interview. So, you have to think about what you look like, what is the image that you’re presenting, and that depends a lot, on what the job that it is you are applying for. Like “This looks good no matter where are you going, right?”
Well then, that is an interesting question, I think if you are applying to be either the dictator of the Third World Country or a Deejay that is a fantastic outfit. But if your planning for say, job in the bank or any sort of corporate interview, you might want to consider not wearing a hat, combing your hair, shaving, wearing a colored shirt and a tie, but colored shirt, I mean one of the bugs down with a nice stiff color, very basic color and a pretty straightforward jacket.
But, this jacket is actually little too big for Dan and it has a stain on it. So, if you are leaving the house and you do not have an extra second to take that stain off? Then you probably do not have an extra second to go get yourself a job, which is the whole plan of leaving your house. So go back inside, get a shirt, and if you have to go buy one, it is worth investing a couple of bucks and actually getting a job. Also, depending on the environment, if its place that has dress down on Fridays, I will say do not wear jeans.
“Thank you so much for staying here, it is awesome to be able to be, I am going to work for you and I am going to work for your company.”
So, when you are greeting an interviewer, you have to be really careful to behave in a professional manner and you have to compose yourself in a way that you want to be treated, which is a nice handshake, a lot of eye contact, and a simple concise greeting.
Dan: It is a pleasure.
Nathan: Hey thanks for coming in.
Dan: Thank you for seeing me.
Nathan: You are hired.
Hopefully, after watching this video, those are the words you will hear. I hope this would be helpful and hope you can shed some light on answering structured interview question.
Dan: Thank you so much for hiring me.
Nathan: You are getting better already Dan.
