Learning how to caulk is incredibly easy, and once you know how to caulk, you can fix unsightly cracks in your woodwork and other areas in your home. I am Meagan Carter and this is AsktheDecorator.
I first learned how to caulk from my dad when I was a little girl, and luckily, the technique has not change since then regardless of what type of caulk you will be using the application process will be exactly the same. When looking for caulk, make sure you get the type that is right for your job. Typically, caulk will come in either squeezable tubes or canisters; if you choose to buy a canister, you will need a caulk gun. Before caulking, remove any old caulk and clean the surface you will be caulking. Then get a bucket of a clean water and sponge, and set it aside. Cut the tip of the caulk container at a 45 degree angle. You should cut the tip to a bit smaller than the sides of the gap you are caulking. The tip of the caulk will have numbers telling you where to cut. Use even pressure when applying the caulk, and only caulk two feet at a time. Remember, if you are using a caulk gun, the only way to get the caulk to stop from coming out is to press the button lever up, then take a wet finger and smooth it out. Bring out your sponge and then wipe it over the area you just caulked. Make sure all excess caulk is cleaned off. Let the caulk dry and you are done.
Caulking really is that easy and extremely useful when fixing up a home. I am Meagan Carter and this is AsktheDecorator.
