How to Apply Deck Cleaner

Hi! I’m Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I’m going to apply a deck cleaner solution to this framing structure that surrounds my pool pump. So the first thing you want to do is wash down the wood surface area with a hose. Just use a spray hose to wipe it clean.

So after we’ve sprayed down the wood surface area, you can kind of scrap out all of the main debris or the particles that are on there, we have to leave to fairly dry and then we’ll apply a deck cleaner. So I’ve already applied this deck cleaner to this wood frame structure. You’re supposed to apply it with full strength in a sprayer which I got here, a garden type sprayer. It is a very caustic material so you want to wear eye protection, gloves, and full clothes. You don’t want to get into your skin or eyes or else you need to visit a doctor.

We also water down the lawn here just to ensure that we don’t burn the lawn with any of the chemicals. So when applying this deck cleaner, you want to apply it at the base of the vertical object and then work your way upwards, we want to completely drench it. When applying the deck cleaner, other thing you might want to do is to stay upwind of the spray just to ensure that you don’t inherit any fumes.

So the really thing about this deck cleaning material is that you don’t require any type of brush and you’re scrubbing. You apply it, let is sit for five to 10 minutes and then simply wash it down.

So what we’re doing here is just hosing it down with amounts of water and after we complete this, we’ll let it dry and when it’s thoroughly dry, we’ll come back and stain the surface area.

So as you can see here, we’ve hosed this down and it’s starting to dry and it’s extremely clean compared to what we started out with. For your particular deck situation, you may need to put a second coat on. I also advice that if you had a nice deck surface areas to try a little bit of deck cleaner in an obscure area out of sight just to make sure the deck cleaner doesn’t bleach out the surface of your deck too much. So do it as a basic trial on a test trial case.
