How to Apply Eye Makeup

Hi, I'm Aisha Alvez with Picture Perfect Make-up and today we’re talking about how to do a ten-minute make-up for all day beauty. Now, we’ve shown you how to prep the skin and now we’re going to start on the make-up application. If you want your make-up to be quick when you're applying it one trick that I like to tell my clients is to actually start with the eyes because if you do all your foundation and your concealer and you do your eyes inevitably you're going to have some shadow fall out that’s going to land here. And so then you clean it up and you’ve erased what you’ve already done, so one trick to speeding up your make-up application is to start with the eyes. So first what we’re going to do is groom the eyebrows. Now, Therese has got a really nice shape brow we don’t really need to do a whole lot. So a quick way to groom your brows is to use a brow groomer. It comes in a gel form sometimes it’s transparent, sometimes it has some color. I'm using one that has a little bit of auburn color to match her hair. So you're going to take the brush and just sweep through the brow and see what that does is it not only gives her brows some color but also sets it into a really nice shape. Same thing on the other side and that’s it. It’s nice and quick. Once you’ve groomed the brows, what you want to do is prep your eye for the eye shadow. Now if you want your make-up all day the trick is to use a primer and a primer is normally something that’s in a cream form and what that’s going to do is create a nice base for all of your eye shadow to kind of anchor unto and last the whole day without creasing. There's a lot of different eye shadow primers on the market, I like to use something that’s kind of translucent so once you blend it in you don’t see it on the skin and that way it kind of works with all skin tones and whatever make-up you're going to be wearing that day. So see once I've blended that in you don’t even see it. And now we’re ready for shadow. One other trick that you can do to really speed up your make-up application in the morning is to work with a palette. Now palettes are fabulous because you're going to have all of the colors you need in one spot so you don’t have to worry at looking at different compacts and opening lots of little boxes, you just open one thing and everything is there. So I'm going to start with her base shadow, which is normally going to be like nude beige or shell type color. For everyday wear I like to use something that’s a little bit more matte because shimmer looks a little bit dressy, we want something that she can wear everyday. So you're going to close your eyes and press it onto the skin. Now the pressing motion is actually really important because you're using your brush as a tool to press the make-up into that eye shadow base that we just applied. So you can make that they kind of bond together and your make-up will last longer. Next we’re going to go into some of the medium shades in the palette. Just to give her eyes some daps I'm going to use kind of a soft bronze. And if you can look down toward your knee and apply the color right underneath the brow bone in almost windshield wiper motion because that will apply it right in the crease and give her daps. When you're in a hurry and you don’t want to spend a lot of time on your make-up, use neutral colors because they're the easiest to work with there's not a lot of guess work in blending involve. We’re going to do the same thing on the other side. Now if you want to add just a little bit of extra color you can go into kind of an accent shade. For Theresa I'm using kind of a shell peachy pink, this will just add a little bit of lift to the eye and I'm pressing this right onto the lid. You see that creates a very pretty feminine soft eyed that she can wear everyday. Now that we’re done with shadow I'm going to show you a trick that I like to do to make your eyeliner last all day. So what most women will turn to is like a pencil or something like that to define their eye. What I'm going to show you is how to define your eyes with an eye cake liner. Now a cake liner is basically—it looks like an eye shadow but the formulation is different and that it has a lot more pigments so you're going to get a lot more bang for your application. And what you're going to do is use a little straight brush to pick up the color, tap off the excess and we’re going to use like a rubber stamp right into the base of her lashes. All you need to do is press and wiggle and kind of whack your way across the lash line. I'm using black but of course, you can always use brown, plum, bronze, or any basic liner color you want because you're applying it so close to the lashes that when you open your eyes it just kind of looks like you have a thicker lash line. This is great because the pigment in your shadow will just grab onto your natural skin oils and also that shadow base so it won't move all day. That’s a basic application. I'm also going to show you what you can do if you really want some long staying power. Let’s say if you're going out at night and you want something that’s going to really last you can add a liner transformer, which is basically a liquid that is formulated to transform any eyeliner into a waterproof color. So what you do is you just wet your brush with that product a little bit. There a lot of different ones on the market and they all go by different names but if you go to the store and just ask your sales associate for something that will transform powders into eyeliners they’ll usually know what to give you. So we've done the same thing, it’s now a little bit wet and we’re going to apply it the same way. Now the difference you're going to see is that the line is going to be a little bit more distinct almost like a liquid liner, which is good, too it’s just going to be slightly more dressy look. But it’d tell you this is not going to budge. The last thing to do on the eyes is of course mascara. Now when you want your mascara to last, most women don’t know this but one of the best things that you can do is to curl your lashes first and that’s because by curling your lashes you're lifting them so they're not touching your under eye and that way you're not transferring any color down here. One bit myth is that if you want your mascara all day you have to use a waterproof formula which is not true and honestly I prefer not to use waterproof because those formulas are—they have a lot of stronger ingredients that can sometimes dry out the lashes so it’s not really healthy for everyday use. So what I use is a gel-base or water resistant mascara which will be great because it’s not going to transfer or smudge but you know you can't go swimming with it. I don’t think you're going to go swimming everyday so this should be fine. You're going to look down. And when you apply your mascara you start at the base and role your way out. I'm using a bit of a zigzag motion so we can really play up the fullness of her lashes. Now your final step and this is something I mentioned before is to clean up under the eyes. You see how now we've got some of that shadow that’s falling down there, we want to make sure that we get that nice and clean so we can prepare for the next steps. So you take a cue tip with a little of eye make-up remover. Look up and just very quickly swipe it all away, and now you're ready for the rest of your make-up.
