Kristy: Well if you are looking to spice up some furniture how about given an ancient
copper finish. This is actually done with plaster and Sandra is going to show us
how to do it.
Sandra: Alright let’s get started.
Kristy: Okay now this takes several steps so to make it easy for the camera we are going
to do this on mighty boards. So you are going to roll out some plastic—
Sandra: Yes it’s already rolled on, this are great color and this actually starting with the
polished plaster so now in order to create this will actually I’m going to work with
spatula knives we use one knives two ply.
Kristy: Because you don’t want to scoop it out.
Sandra: No, you wanted to just scoop it out and I haven’t a plastic tub is a lot easier to
operate this way versus the stick into your hand and the can. So you want to roll
the plaster first and then use the knife on top of it first at the coat.
Kristy: Yeah we are actually adding another layer texture okay and then we are going to
do let’s called like skip throw.
Sandra: Wherever the heavy areas are is great because we can actually add this tensile
right in there so just by putting this tensile into the plaster.
Kristy: And would be in deeper in print.
Sandra: Deeper in print absolutely. You can leave with there for about 30 second or so and
once you got and pull it right out and pull out the corner and you will the impact.
Is that fabulous?
Kristy: Yeah that’s cool.
Sandra: Now okay now you actually don’t see what it looks like at this point but when it
dries it looks like this and the next step actually is fossils. Now I don’t know if the
camera can pick this up right now but here is a good lift and print right there and
when we’re done it’s going really pop out.
Kristy: This is another tensile here.
Sandra: We are just going to smear plaster right on top of it and we left it the tensile and
there is your image to see how and just kind of taking the knife and covering his
entire body and you will see there is a lot plaster on there and we are just going to
remove the excess.
Kristy: With the clean knife?
Sandra: With the clean knife yeah, so gently like that and here they are.
Kristy: Oh that’s great.
Sandra: You want to try one?
Kristy: Sure.
Sandra: So we are going to use the tensile one.
Kristy: Oh that is cool.
Sandra: Is that cool?
Kristy: I love it. Well back with Sandra from Pro and we are doing an ancient copper
finish so just remind you we did our entrance first then we side our fossils and
tensile and here it is dry and ready for our copper.
Sandra: Okay so we are just going to do a little sanding here because there is a little sharp
and that’s why because we use a lot of plaster there so just using a lot of sand
block just it just to soften it.
Kristy: Yeah you don’t want to take me in prone out.
Sandra: No, just to soften this so we don’t you know prick our finger. This a great thing
this is galaxy wax by prolix approach got pure grind it and we’re going to use
copper for our finish but there is all the great finishes and we’re actually going to
use a sponge, this is the wood colt sponge.
Kristy: So you want it wet.
Sandra: Want it wet and we’re just going around with the circular motions and one pull of
pressure on your sponge and you would smear it until all of the red surface is
covered you will see the red coming through a little bit which is nice is that red
actually are going to play apart on the final finish.
Kristy: So this is dry?
Sandra: This is dry okay it’s got tow coat on it and you start to see the leaf and we starting
to see the falls on and you can see and now we’re going to go from here to here.
So what I have is the frolic from of our glaze and add some black paint.
Kristy: Now this looks like you pulling want to go light on it right.
Sandra: Well it’s a trends, the glaze are transparent so it’s not like paint so as you rub by
polishing your shoe you will still see the copper below that is transparent.
Kristy: That is cool.
Sandra: You know what I think that’s would be cool too is like if you did jus the section
about this big or a little bit bigger on the wall and maybe tear up some trim it will
look like that one.
Kristy: Yeah. Absolutely we have we’ve done it on the wall and that’s fantastic so we’ve
now see all of the hard work that we’ve did with the fossils and the lead it’s that
from here and out is just really rubbing on blocks, rubbing on glaze and then we
just need to seal it.
Sandra: Now once the glaze dries we’re ready for our last step which is the varnish. This
is our set in varnish actually, a kind of acrylic and we put some varnish and you
put on the door that’s going to go on white but dry clear so you just put it on until
it evaporates and then this has a really nice finish it’s also going to bring the board
and protect it and that’s the final furnish.
Kristy: Well few way easy steps and you turn something really plain into something
really cool.
