How to Apply a Filter in Photoshop CS3

Photoshop comes with a lot of preset filters that you can apply to a photo to get a whole new look. And how you access these is you want to open up the filter gallery. So go ahead and go to filter and then you could just choose artistic and then choose the first one colored pencil. And then this way, it’s just going to open up the filter gallery for you. Go down here if you need to and you could zoom in or zoom up on your image so you could see what’s going on as you apply the filters. This is going to give you a preview over here of the filters that are being applied and when I hadn’t, it applied the colored pencil one.

Now there are lots of other filters here under your different categories which you could click on the arrow to display the categories and then to hide them. You could click on one and it’s going to go ahead—it may take a few seconds depending on how fast or slow your computer is, and it’s going to give you the results. Now with each of these filters over on the right hand side of the filter gallery, you have some options. You have, and these are going to vary depending on what filter you’ve chosen and this allows you to get the filter exactly how you want. So you can see that there are really thousands of combinations of the different filters which you can add. Let’s take a look at a couple other of these. And once again, as I apply these, then it’s going to go ahead and it’s going to give me different options over to the right and I could basically just experiment until I get the exact look that I’m looking for.
