Hip Spider
To begin the application of the hip spider, have the patient lying on the side, with the hip exposed. Then, tear all of the perforations along the black line.
For step number one, have the client with their leg in a straightened position, peel back the entire section of number one, and then stretch the tape approximately one inch longer than resting length and place over top of the trochanter of the hip, making sure you're directly over top of the hard bone. Once applied, rub the tape to activate the glue.
For the second step, then bring the patient's leg forward and resting down to stretch out to gluteal muscles. Take the tape, and as you gently peel the backing, allow the tape to come in gentle contact with the skin, angling towards the sacral base or lower portion of the spine.
Once each section is about 90% applied, then tear the remaining portion of the backing off and let the tape come in contact with the skin. Rub the tape to activate the glue, and to ensure no creases have formed. Once again, tearing the backing, keeping your hands on the backing, not touching the adhesive, letting the tape with no stretch, come in contact with the gluteal muscles in about the line of the glute medius and glut min. Then gently rubbing the tape to activate the glue.
For section three, take the leg, extend it back and behind the body, start peeling back the backing of section three, and without any stretch in the tape, let the tape come in contact with the lateral thigh along the iliotibial band.
Once 90% of the application is adhered to the skin, then tear the remaining portion of the backing off and smooth down, completing section three. Gently rub the tape, from the start to the finish to activate the glue.
Once the hip spider is fully applied, gently rub over top of the tape to ensure proper activation of the glue.
