Okay, let's take a look at this sentence. Nǐ cóng zhōng guó na lǐ lái de? So the first character Nǐ means “you”. The second character cóng means “from”. The third and fourth character zhōng guó means “China” and the next two characters na lǐ is a single word in Chinese and that means “where” followed by next character lái which means “come” and the last character de doesn’t have an actual meaning. It’s just there to fulfill the grammar of this sentence.
So the whole sentence Nǐ cóng zhōng guó na lǐ lái de. Let's take a look at each individual characters.
So the first character is Nǐ, you can see that Nǐ is more likely left and right structure its character and Nǐ means “you”. So the pronunciation is N I. N pronounce nie and I pronounce E. All together with the second tone that goes from up to down and then up again. It is niee or in the shorter version ni.
The second character is cóng. So cóng means “from” and you can see that is more likely left and right structured character. So the pronunciation of cóng is C O N G. C pronounce Zi and O N G pronounce ONG with the second tone that goes down from down to up. It is Zi Ong see-iong or in the shorter version si-ong.
The third character is zhōng. So zhōng means “middle”. You can see that the pronunciation is Z H O N G. So Z H pronounce G and O N G pronounce ONG with the first tone that is totally flat. It is ung or in the shorter version ung.
Next character is guó. So guó means a “country” and you can see that the pronunciation is G U O. So G pronounce gie and U O pronounce uio with the second tone that is going from down to up. It is sio guu or in the shorter version sio guu. So zhōng guó, Middle Country or Middle Kingdom, that is China.
The next character is na. So na means “where” and you can see that its more likely on that middle right structured character. The pronunciation of na is N A. So N pronounce nie and A pronounce ah with the third tone that is going from up to down and then up again. It is nia or in the shorter version nya.
Next character is lǐ. So lǐ is means “inside” but na lǐ, all together means “where”. So you can see that the pronunciation of lǐ is L I and L pronounce liee I pronounce E with the third tone that is going from up to down and then up again. It is liee or in the shorter version li.
The next character is lái. Lái means “come” and you can see that the pronunciation is L A I. So L pronounce liee and A I pronounce I with the second tone that is going from down to up. It is liee or in the shorter version lee.
