How to Attach Text to a Path in Fireworks CS3

A really cool text effect is to create a path for the text to follow and then attach the text to that path.

So first of all, you want to create your path. Now, you can use the pencil tool, the pen tool, you can also use a shape. I’m going to go ahead and choose a shape that I want to attach my text to. I’m going to go ahead and choose the ellipse tool. Now, I am going to set this to be the same color as my canvas which is white right now. So, I’m going to set it to have a white fill and then to no stroke because I don’t actually want the circle to show up. I just want it to act as a path. Now you could have your circles show up if you would like that sort of look, you can do that as well.

I’m going to hold down my SHIFT key, draw my circle and then I’m going to use the text tool to add some text just down below. I’m going to change my color so I can see this a little bit better. So now, I want to hold down my SHIFT key and I want to select both my circle. I’m going to get my pointer tool and select my circle, hold down my SHIFT key and then select my text as well. I’m going to go up to text and then go attach to path and it’s going to automatically attach that text to the path.

Now, there are several things that I could do now to modify this. I can double click on my text and it was going to let me edit it. So if I want to add more or delete more, I can. So I can add more text. I can also select my text and I could change the color if I want. Choose some in a little bit darker. I can choose the size, make it bold, make it italic, make it underline, I can also change the alignment of it. I can adjust the spacing. I can set the text orientation. So there’s all kinds of the regular text options that you can do to go ahead and modify that text. Go ahead and click off of it somewhere and then you could see your text to a path. And then you could go ahead and you can move this wherever you’d like to move. You can also adjust your circle if you’d like or you can make a new circle. So, that’s one what that you can attach text to a path in Adobe Fireworks.
