I am always looking for ways to make my little piece of the earth-my garden, a better place. One of the ways I do these, to invite certain visitors that are visitors that are helpful, like toads. I know that a toad has a face that only a mother could love, but do you know that one toad can eat from 10 to 20,000 insects a year? You can welcome toads to your garden, by offering them a source of water, a garden pool, ground level is the perfect place for them to lay eggs, and produce the next generation of toads. And the tadpoles are fun to watch, and housing for the adult toads is equally important.
Toad houses can be as elaborate as it is bronze garden ornament, or simple as a broken pot, partially buried in the soil. Even as whimsical, as this little toad has, I am placing here in my shade garden. You have to take housing the toad seriously. When you consider, they can leave from 4 to 15 years. Talk about a lot of insect control they can provide, and that whole wide tale about getting warts from handling toads. It shows that, it is a wild tale; it is not true at all. But, what you should know about handling toads, “Oh, here one right here!” Is it they secrete a substance from behind the ears that is poisonous. You see this taste bud in the mouth of predators, so when you handle them, you should always wash your hands.
