Ken Dolan: Daria, I might first say if I may since I’m an expert that you look wonderful.
Daria Dolan: Thank you.
Ken Dolan: Could I used that scarf that you’re on.
Daria Dolan: No.
Ken Dolan: Thank you. By the way there’s enough we do a lot of golf.
Daria Dolan: How do I feel like Vanna White working with him.
Ken Dolan: Thank you, Vanna. When we talk a lot on Dolans.com about credit cards scandals, lots of ways that people have been trying to get your identity, trying to rip you off.
Daria Dolan: Do you know there’s an identity theft that takes place every two seconds in this country. That’s frightening.
Ken Dolan: Not were all of them happen Daria, but I feel sound like I feel like Andy Rooney. Yeah, don’t worry when you give your credit card to a waiter or a waitress. I do.
Daria Dolan: Yeah.
Ken Dolan: I worry about it because that’s an important little piece of plastic, and it’s like, but where did it go?
Daria Dolan: And you know the interesting thing—first of all it’s risky when you can’t keep track of where your card is
Ken Dolan: And that’s why you have to be extra careful. You’re not going to go—some people I’ve seen go where they punch the card off and take the card off but most people.
Daria Dolan: Well, Taliban victims before.
Ken Dolan: Yeah most people don’t do that.
Daria Dolan: But you know we don’t focus on the front with our names and the numbers on it. It’s that little strip that magnetic strip in the back that can be run through a machine. It has your Social Security Number, your password. It’s got everything on it.
Ken Dolan: You have to be careful.
Daria Dolan: That’s how people lose their identities when they lost track of their credit cards.
Ken Dolan: Two things I want to be careful of—we talked on a restaurant for a second specifically that was good stuff Daria.
Daria Dolan: Thank you.
Ken Dolan: Specifically, be careful when in the restaurant of a handwritten receipt. I want it run through please. A handwritten receipt means it can be change. They can write it up, so it can be easily altered. You want it run through the machine and very clearly done. And when I see a price $27.00 I put lines on each side of that number because that’s going to make it much harder all through number one.
And number two, another scam be careful of Daria. I don’t think with Urban taken a result, but rather have we used American Express among others. You give an American Express green card to do general or to launch all of the sudden you get an American Express green card back you put it in your wallet.
Daria Dolan: And you don’t look up at the front of it.
Ken Dolan: Expired.
Daria Dolan: And you’ve been given someone else’s card or an expired card. These things happen. You should always look at the card to make sure it is in fact yours and the expiration date is still good before you put it back in your pocket.
Ken Dolan: And before you sign that receipt—we’ll talk about tip on the second before you sign the receipt make sure that you check the prices on the receipt against the menu. I’m going to tell you there’s a lot of mistakes made. Some by mistakes, some not so by mistake and you want to make sure you reconcile the original receipt against your credit card statements. How many people say, “We have $300.00 we got.”? Just check it out especially restaurants.
Daria Dolan: Absolutely, especially restaurants. Now if you tend to pay with a credit card but you like to leave cash as a tip. Here’s another way you can get ripped off if you’re careful. On that chit before you sign it run a line through the tip line, cross it out so that somebody can’t put a number on there and put underneath a cash on that table. So that you, the credit card—
Ken Dolan: On the receipt.
Daria Dolan: On the receipt itself so that you, the credit card company and the restaurant know I paid in cash for the tip.
Ken Dolan: Yeah, I think it’s also for a less little tip as we relate to this is be sure to keep the original credit card receipt from the restaurant until you get the credit card statement.
Daria Dolan: I know you don’t want to because then you’ll realize how much money you spent in eating out.
Ken Dolan: The big stock of things, right? —Start cooking, no. If you want to check that original receipt against the monthly bill because if there’s a discrepancy on the monthly bill and you have the original receipt. The credit card company will take care of it very, very easily.
Daria Dolan: Absolutely.
Ken Dolan: So keep the receipts until they reconcile against the monthly statement. All receipts.
Daria Dolan: Yeah.
Ken Dolan: Especially restaurants.
Daria Dolan: We’re sharing this with you so that you won’t have to get up from the table and follow the way to wherever he or she goes.
Ken Dolan: How about dinner?
Daria Dolan: Oh!
Ken Dolan: Good, let’s go.
Daria Dolan: Bye.
