Well, in fact we have the power to reduce the diabetes rates and reduce our personal risk by as much as 90% right now no noble prize required. Most diabetes is Type 2, most Type 2 diabetes is proceeded by obesity and insulin resistance and these in turn are caused by life style if we control the quality of our diet, if we are regularly physically active and if we manage our weight we can reduce our diabetes risk and slash rates in the population at large by between 60 and 90%.
In fact a similar clinical trail called the diabetes prevention program demonstrated that the combination of just a balanced prudent diet the usual things fruits, vegetables, whole grains, main protein sources combined with moderate physical activity reduce the rate of diabetes in high risk individuals by 60%. Improve on that a little bit and you can get upto the 90% reduction. So, to insulate yourself in your family against the risk of diabetes, eat sensibly, make sure that your home is filled with all the right choices, emphasize in particular good sources of soluble fiber shown to lend specific protection against diabetes and those foods include beans, lentils, oats, apples and berries.
Aim for that 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days and be sure to take your family along with you and these in turn will improve weight balance, prevent obesity and slash your risk of diabetes far better to prevent diabetes than ever have to worry about managing it.
