Alexis: Designers are throwing out their newest looks and by the time the models step off the cat walk, the knock off artists will be at work making bling on a budget.
Barnes: A designer is out there to inspire us, they are fabulous and then what we do is publish for out consumer.
Alexis: Faviana’s versions are sometimes look alike, sometimes with reinterpretations. They read stories months before the designer judge at a fraction of the price. At this year’s Oscars Penelope Cruiz wore this $15,000.00 Versace, Faviana’s knock off dress under $400.00.
Beyonce wore a several version of this beaded gown at this year’s Golden Gloves. It toke Faviana dress 48 hours to create its own rendition. But fashion is to say quantity is no substitute for quality.
Marc: Often you got the same look, but if all the parts within days.
Alexis: Without the multi-billion dollar knock off industry, high in design would only be for the super rich. But, sometimes they replicas are little to close for comfort.
Marc: When we see the exact, same design made with a lesser fabric it is no longer an inspiration it is a copy.
Alexis: Imitation couturier has some designers coming apart at the seams. Congress is now considering legislation that would protect fashion designs for three years and find copycats. The copies are not, they do shine a light on fashion.
John: That interest in fashion is good for everyone. It is never seen revenue as high and then they do today.
Alexis: And for the masses that means you can look like a million box without spending it. Alexis Christoforous at CBS News, New York.
