Leah Eckelberger: Hi again it's Leah. I'm back for another video blog. I'm here today to actually discuss something that a costumer actually brought up after seeing the video blog. She had a question and she was hoping that we could answer it over the blog. So the question was what makes something an ugly jean? And she has been watching and saying that everything is really helpful but this would be greatly helpful. So she could kind of understand. She didn't understand what meant an ugly jean? And it's hard, it's actually a great question but it's a hard question because it's a little bit more of gray area than it seems. It's not so cut and dry. So now to get all Denim Yoda on you but it basically it's just a saying as a bad jean, a good jean. But there is such a thing as a jean that doesn't fit properly or a jean that you do not feel comfortable in. so therefore you can't rock in it, it doesn't look good on your body. Those would be examples of jeans gone bad.
But there are also like sort of more general basic things to poor people look out for in terms of shapes and colors and shades for their body. The rules are never hard and fast. We always talk about that at the store. So you have to kind of figure out what part of your body you really love to emphasize and kind of focus on that and decide that's where you want to go when you buy jeans, just like any other part of shopping. The other thing that you want to think about too is pooling everything back into proportion for your body. Everything needs to be in proportion. So a jean can really help do that, so let's say for example you feel like your butt is a little bit on the bigger side which is -- there is nothing wrong with that. But if you want to pull that back into proportion you're going to look for bigger back pocket. If you have the Asian fat ass syndrome, and you want something that kind of gives you more of a butt because you want to it be proportional to the rest of your body, you're going to go ahead and go for a smaller back pocket with a little detail. So there is our rule but again various rules can very easily be broken and there is no hard and fast. But there is our fairly basic within Premium Denim world.
So today we're going to discuss some other things that you might want to look out for when you're looking for a jean, so that the jean doesn't become as a costumer said an ugly jean on you, okay. So first thing is, this jean; this is something called the Sweet Water. It's from Stephenson Denim Finery and it is actually gorgeous jeans. It's a dark pretty much one tonal two rings fun Denim and it has a very high rise, right off the back we can see that it's about a nine-and-half inch probably ten inch rise, very, very long, very, very high. So this jean when you pull it off the rack you might go; that is really a ugly jean. There is now way I 'm going to wear that. You need to kind of pause and say, okay, but what are the some of the things about my body that this actually might work for it. So this is a higher rise. If women for example, have a little bit of a longer torso what's going to need better for you is advised it's little higher because that's going to proportion you out a lot more. So women you have longer torsos might actually want to grab this jean and try it and see how they feel in it. Other thing too is that if you want to stay away from really long backside of the Mom jean but there are a lot of active moms out there and a lot of you come to our store and you just feel like, you can't have you ass hanging out all the time. Totally acceptable, definitely a jean worth giving a shot to, if the rise is too high in your body and the butt looks a little too long because that's the first rule of a mom jean is that, they end up with long butt. Then we got to rule it out. But try it because you never know, the jean actually might work for your body.
So again ugly turned good jean. There are a lot of examples. So this jean is by one of our favorite companies in this store Denim of Virtue and it looks totally fine and then you look at the leg and you are like, holy the Jesus that's a big, big flared leg. Oh! My gush, I mean that's crazy, that's like what they wore in the 70s. Why would I wear something like that? Again don't rule it out. This jean actually is beautiful on. It's a dark denim which everyone in Boston tends to love. But the other thing too is that super flare actually makes your leg look a lot long longer and leaner than let's say a super skinny jean does. It's a very great optical illusion because what it does is it actually puts emphasis at the smallest part of your leg, your knee so you look tiny, tiny, tiny and then it juts out really nicely. So it gives that optical illusion that your leg is actually lot slimmer than it appears. It's really great and that's why I think boot cut and flares always comes back time and time and season and season again. So we're seeing this really trend as well as the kind of a Relaxed Boyfriend jean, the slouchy jean which I kind of love, I have to admit.
We are looking into bringing it not the store that is very slouchy and kind of baggy and I'm really not sure if Boston is ready for that or not. So the other thing about this jean that you kind of want to be careful about because it is great jean and it's fantastic. It's that if you wire on petite side, you want to make sure that you're wearing heels with this jean because this jean is a lot of flare going on for such a short leg span. So you don't want to look like a cartoon character with this huge crazy flare. You kind of want to be careful of that so that's something to really think about.
There are some women who are blessed with longer legs and so therefore they can pull off the very flare leg and they don't have to worry about I think you wear with flats and we hate them all but now really petite women, you just want to be careful and make sure that it's actually feels good that you feel like it's proportionally you can rock it out and heels are really going to help with that.
Another example where a jean could be considered an ugly jean that actually works is again favorite company ever Denim of Virtue, we really love this jean. This jean is something called the grace. It has a loop back pocket and the reason this jean is so great is that fit is far nominal. I can't even emphasize enough how great this jean fits. The back pocket is actually great for women who have no butt that would be me because it gives an emphasis; it gives a little bit more action. It looks like there is more going on. It's great for women who are curvier because the butt pocket is actually little bit bigger. The proportion is fantastic. So it's lightly shaded so it gives you little top little cloud effect that we talked about before and then the front, what they have on this jean is that vertical shading down. So what that does is that deeper color on the outer thigh, then on the inner thigh, it's really going to slim down your thigh for you.
Now, this jean might be considered with ugly jean because it is a lighter color. And women is Boston tend to shy away from things that are lighter colors. But ladies, I know that you think dark color is going to make you look slimmer and it's see how doing you all kinds of favorite but it doesn't always. It doesn't always translate. Sometimes when you put on as jean and it's all one tonal this is vast plain of thigh, we talk about that a lot, there's a lot of vast plain of thigh. Little bit of shading is actually going to help often, not always but sometimes it really makes a huge difference. So don't be afraid of a jean because it's a little bit of lighter color. You don't always need to carry dark. You don't always need to considerate about it. You want something that fits you well and that looks good. So that's how basically things are considered bad jeans can suddenly become great jeans. So I hope this was helpful for our costumer who came in. It was great to meet you and I'm glad that you're enjoying the blogs. So yeah, any other fashion questions, feel free to see, continue to ask us and we hope you enjoyed our video blogging and that's it, take care everyone. See you next week.
