How to Avoid Mindless Eating

Welcome I’m Brian Wansink, the author of the book, “Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think.”

We made this one research of studies where we took people as they left this big warehouse clubs. You know these are those clubs we end up buying huge amount of food like a five gallon brails of Pretzels or like 36 packs of potato chips. We bring them home. We studied some people who did this and what we found is that when people bring these packs at home who is in the room for 36 packs of potato chips, nobody so we end up putting them in cover as long that table tops are in counters and see them all the time, anytime we’re even thinking about the snack.

The first thing we think about is that bag of chips or that bag of candy pieces because it says, “Open me, eat me. Now, what we found is that people who end up buying a lot of stuff in these clubs end up eating half of it within the first six days of bringing it at home because they turn around, a bag that is saying, “Hey, if you’re hungry, you can eat me.”
