You shouldnt use a metal chain to tie them up. You dont give enough information. Here is how to wash a dog. First before you bath them you see if the are tangled, if so brush all the tangles out. Get the dog in the bathtub. If the dog has fleas wet the dog the apply dawn dish soap starting at the nose working your way to the rest of the head then to the tail. Leave the dawn soap on for a 5 minutes in to insure all the fleas are dead. For a dog with out fleas wet the dog then apply DOG soap all of the dog. Dont forget to soap the bottom of the feet. Rinse the dog and towel dry.

Bathing a Short Haired Dog Part 2 Fresh 'n Clean and the Spectrum Laboratories Conditioner can both be bought either from the retailer or you can use which you might find in a pet store. Scrubbing while rinsing being sensitive to the skin. Being a short haired dog, see if there is any spots or rash areas so you want to be sensitive too. And if there are any small tangles, try to pull those out while you have the chance. Then you just want to throughly rinse the dog down underneath and on the top.
