Liz: Even though I was beginning to think that Iceland was an ideal place to be a single women; I was also starting to realize, it wasn’t prefect.
The main thing I’m hearing is that people in Iceland don’t date the way you do in America. So I mean, somebody to explain what’s happening?
Female: We just meet through friends. France. That’s how we meet or when we are going out.
Female: If you out or whatever and you meet somebody, if you like to take him home or whatever, why not? Why do you have to get emotional?
Female: It’s like, OK, we are just having sex.
Helga Braga Jonsdottir: We take our guys, like this.
Female: We used to have this club called F U K K which stands for in Icelandic, a group of young, single, females.
Helga Braga Jonsdottir: You’ve dream—and just go for it and men are afraid of us.
Liz: Women meet men at bars, here they have sex, it’s very liberated, it’s very open and it’s not such a big courting and dating and drinks and until five days and many has to do this.
Female: We need more of your culture here. We are inviting you to maybe, you know.
Liz: Tell men to start asking you out? I would also say the opposite that it is nice to have you less formal just sort of like you’re all out meeting and it’s more fun that way. Does anybody think it’s more better to do it the way you guys are doing it?
Female: Absolutely not.
Liz: No. You don’t like just meeting at bars and hanging out?
Female: No! Of course we want to get to know the person, there are one, two, three, four, you know steps, not the first night or whatever.
Liz: Then stop sleeping with every guy you meet in a bar!
Female: If we are so strong and independent, why don’t we change the dating market?
Liz: We will start tonight, no one go out, no one gets drunk, no one has sex.
Female: No.
Liz: Okay. No. Next week when I’m gone.
So in order to understand better these drinking and dating dilemma, I knew I had some serious field research to do.
Liz: Do you prefer asking a woman out or do you like a woman asking you out?
You like to ask a woman out!
