Audra Lowe: For ladies PMS happens to the best of us either you can become irritable, weepy, may be you carve the junk food but is there a cure for it Jill is got some tips to ease the symptoms.
Suzanne Davison: The majority of my symptoms when I had PMS were mostly emotional, there is more depression, irritability, and anxiety.
Female Speaker: These are all coming complaints along with being tired, cranky, and bloated it but despite feeling terrible many women do think they can end these symptoms.
Suzanne Davison: My poor husband wasn't enjoying it that much. You know I was just finding myself just very, very irritable it kind of easily set off and it doesn't help at work, it doesn't help at home. I think most people think that they have to do just live with this and it's a part of your life as a women and I just I find now that have gone to Jill that's its doesn't necessary. There is no need to suffer.
Audra Lowe: Jill Blakeway acupuncturist, licensed, herbalist started treating Suzanne for PMS after hearing her complaints.
Jill Blakeway: The truth is that with changes in diet, with some acupuncture some Chinese herbs a lot of woman can be completely free of PMS symptoms.
Female Speaker: Jill says many of her patients suffer from PMS and are surprised to hear there is a solution.
Jill Blakeway: In traditional Chinese medicine how we see something high PMS is a form of cheese diagnation and what that means really is as your get tighten, tighten, and tighten through out a day and more like a pressure cooker your blood and we would say your cheer, your energy doesn't flow smoothly and what that means to hormones is that hormonal transitions don't take place in a smooth way. This point on the hands called LA4 and we do this in conjunction with one on the foot to circulate blood, it's to smooth out hormonal imbalances. We use acupuncture to move che and therefore blood very gently in the channels and what that means is that makes hormone transitions much smoother so that you don't feel them so abruptly and we use Chinese herbs to naturally and gently treat hormone imbalances.
Female Speaker: Jill prescribed daily herbs and acupuncture twice a month to treat Suzanne.
Suzanne Davison: I was on the herbs probably about two months or three months but I'm actually not on them anymore, I just come in for acupuncture. I feel great I mean it's really made a huge difference, I totally notice you know that it's kind of an easy transition, I don't feel very irritable may anxiety is much, much better.
Jill Blakeway: Its like a little tap like that and then -
Female Speaker: But you don't have to see Jill to start easy PMS symptoms.
Jill Blakeway: We tell our patients to focus on lots and lots of vegetables particularly leafy green vegetables which are particularly good for PMS some main protein, unsaturated fats things like olive oil, and whole grains. And we ask our patients to avoid probably all month that if you cant avoid all month and to avoid in the week before that period alcohol, coffee, salt, and processed foods. There are some nutritional supplements that you can buy over-the-counters that really help. For instance vitamin B-6 which acts on the nervous system is helpful for irritability which is one of those symptoms that people suffer from, and they suffer from PMS and evening primrose oil has an essential fatty acid and it is very good for breast tenderness.
Female Speaker: Jill says relieve doesn't take long.
Jill Blakeway: When we start giving people acupuncture and Chinese herbs to their PMS they see the results pretty quickly. At the first month they are starting to feel better that I usually find that it takes three months for people to be completely free of symptoms.
Female Speaker: And than can make you and your loved ones a whole lot happier.
Suzanne Davison: My husband really appreciates the fact that I'm a little more normal doing that time.
Audra Lowe: Alright if you like to get more advice including how to talk to your doctors about their fist period you can head the parents TV at parents.com, we'll be right back.
