Chantria Tram: Hi! Welcome to watchmojo.com, my name is Chantria Tram. Now, whether you are in New York or L.A. or Montreal, if you want to be an actor, it is a little difficult to know where to start or, you know, how to go about it? So today, I will be interviewing, Josa Maule the President of the Montreal School of Performing Arts to give you a little advice. You will get a lot of wannabe actress coming in here of course and what would you say to those who are interested in the acting business?
Josa Maule: Do something else. You know we get a lot of people who are interested in acting. They do not know exactly what acting is and pretty much when they do call me and they want to, you know, I want to be an actor and so on and so forth I pretty much tell them, I go well, it is just like being a doctor or a lawyer. The only difference is that after you spend so many years of training and articling or in a doctor’s case doing your residence and internship, you have got a job. Acting, you can keep on training and training and training and there are no guarantees.
Chantria Tram: And do you get a lot of people who do not quite understand that it is actual training and not like just pure talent?
Josa Maule: I think every -- but acting is one of the most misunderstood professions. People do not realize how much work is entailed. I mean, yes, there are some talent, there is that “it” factor, whatever it is, okay. But they do not realize it is like, well, I did a class, so why am I not acting? I have been doing this for four years, why am I not in Hollywood? Why am I not in L.A.? You know, it is the most -- the arts period is the most delusional business to get into and a lot of people that going to do not going it for the right reasons. There is a love and a there is a passion for this, okay. And if you do need to make money or to become famous, you want to be famous go kill the president. It may not be the fame you want but I will get you your fame. You will get in the limelight. You will get a couple of book offers and movie deals and so on and so forth. Now you go to press, that will get you fame. Acting, you just going to keep on working on it. Nobody can predict the future.
