Chantria Tram: Hi! Welcome to watchmojo.com, my name is Chantria Tram. Now, whether you are in New York or L.A or Montreal, if you want to be an actor, it’s little difficult to know where to start or how to go about it. So today, I’ll be interview Josa Maule, the president of the Montreal School of Performing Arts to give you a little advice. You get a lot of want to be actress coming in here of course and what you will say to those who are interested in the acting business?
Josa Muale: Do something else. You know we’ve got a lot of people who are interested in acting. They don’t know exactly what acting is. And pretty much when they do call me and they want to—I want to be an actor and so on and so forth, I pretty much tell them I go, “Well, it’s just like being a doctor or a lawyer.” The only difference is, after you spend so many years of training and articling or in doctor’s case doing your residence and internship, you’ve got a job. Acting can keep on training and training and training and there are no guarantees.
Chantria Tram: And you’ve got a lot of people who don’t quite understand that it’s actually training and not like just pure a talent?
Josa Muale: I think everybody—acting is one of the most misunderstood professions. People don’t realize how much work is entailed. There are some talents, there’s that it factor whatever it is. But they don’t realize its like, “Well, I did across so why am I not acting? I’ve been doing this for four years why am I not at Hollywood, why am I not in L.A?” The art’s period is the most delusional business to get into. And a lot of people that go into it, don’t go in it for the right reasons. There’s a love and there’s a passion for this. And if you’re doing it to make money, or to become famous, “Hey, you want to be famous, go kill the president.” It may not be the fame you want but I’ll get you your fame. You got your moment in the Lime leg, you will get a couple of book offers and movie deals and so on and so forth. Negative price but I’ll get you to fame. Acting, you’re just going to keep on working on it, there’s nobody can predict the future.
