How to Bleed a Hayes Nine/Sole Disc Brake

We have seen the bleeding of the Hayes EL Camino. Now this is the Hayes Nine and it shares some characteristics with all the other Hayes breaks other than the El Camino. In that the bleed on the lever is here and so you want that point to be at the very highest point. So you loose some of the lever, rotate that up and then you want to turn the handle bar, so that clearly the hose makes it be at the highest point there and you need a way to catch the fluid. So I just used something like, for the Nine we need this fitting, it's not threaded as opposed to the El Camino one was threaded and this one we will use on the mag and then we with this fitting into the hose. On the Hayes Nine, you just pull this plug out and there is the bleed hole and you leave the rubber seal around there and you just then push in the bleed hose fitting and make sure you drop this down again into your -- whatever you are using to catch the fluid as you bleed it.

Once you have done that, you do exactly what you did with the El Camino, where you put the squeeze bottle on to the bleed fitting here and you pump hydraulic fluid in and until it comes out clean this and you pull this out and you replace your bleed plug and then you pull the break and the break works and as you can see as long as you have made this at the highest point like that, even though I pulled this plug out and put it back in I didn't actually get any air in the system.

So this is the main difference between bleeding the Nine as opposed to the El Camino, their sole has the same setup as this as well.
