D. Lee Beard: Welcome back to another episode of Ask the Techies, I am D. Lee Beard.
Brandon Jackson: And I am Brandon Jackson hello.
D. Lee Beard: And we got for you in this show, Brandon is going to give us a Photoshop tip.
Brandon Jackson: Yes I am going to show them how to blur the background in two different ways.
D. Lee Beard: Great! One of the things I am going to be showing you is the disk utility. How to format a Mac hard drive or CD, and also keeping in mind a few things where you might run into some snags and a new feature in Leopard for disk utility for partitioning your drives which is really cool. As well as a whole bunch of first look at OS 10 Leopard the new Mac OS that just came out just first looks, a few things you might notice right off the bat that could throw you off that you may not like.
This is not going to be your fan boy review. We are going to show you the things that nobody else is telling you about the problems with Mac OS 10, okay. I will still go and ask but there are some things you should know before you upgrade incase this could be killer thing problems for you.
So first, why would we not dive into this Photoshop thing, I gave Brandon a picture of myself to use for this and I do not know what he has done to it.
Brandon Jackson: Full figure of D. Lee.
D. Lee Beard: Well it has got to be somebody you know, you that would be worse. Anyway, one of the things that Brandon wants to show us is how to blur the background of an image. Before instance, if you were ever at the beach and you have a picture of yourself, you are at the pool, you do not want those people on the background in the shot you might want to blur them out.
Brandon Jackson: Especially if you are not so good looking, they are you do not want to have embarrassment in there.
D. Lee Beard: And you want to draw a focus and this is a real artistic thing where you can have something in focus like let us say you had a picture of us right here. You might want me in focus and then you might want that old Mac plus in focus to emphasize age.
And then if you wanted to focus on newness you get Brandon and —
Brandon Jackson: I got your hotness right here.
D. Lee Beard: That new power book. So anyway, let us dive into something fun for them.
Brandon Jackson: All right, we are going to bring up the picture here, this picture of D. Lee and we will talk about his problem later I guess.
D. Lee Beard: Why am I agreeing so much? Do you have anything to do in what is in my hand?
Brandon Jackson: Yes, what we have is a picture here. Normally, what you have to start off with is of course making a cut out of whatever you want to do. So in this case we are just going to do you, like the lasso tool, quick mass tool whichever, I mean basically I just showed you how to do a start.
Luckily though, with the power of computers and my magic ability—I have already got this done. Oh, look there it is.
D. Lee Beard: So basically what he is doing is, he is basically selecting me, whatever it is that he wants to keep in that way he can blur everything else with what you are doing.
Brandon Jackson: Yes.
D. Lee Beard: Instead of trying to choose all this little things in the background to try to blur he is just going to choose what he wants to keep and focus.
Now when you selected, you selected me but the problem with that is, it is not me that you actually want to apply to filter too, so how do you get it to do the opposite?
Brandon Jackson: So right now we actually have it on the background but normally what you would do is you can either go into select and go up to inverse right there. Go to inverse and that would switch like I said obviously we had you or you can hold shift and hit F7 on your keyboard.
D. Lee Beard: That is a nice keyboard.
Brandon Jackson: And that will flip it around.
D. Lee Beard: F7, okay.
Brandon Jackson: There are a couple of them that is when I prefer that. So anyway, now we have the background it is just the background it is not you D. Lee.
D. Lee Beard: Let us zoom in just a little bit so we can show
