Male Speaker: So over the course of 12 weeks, this is what happened in their lean body mass growth over the course of time. So as you can see with this group, again the placebo group, they didn't drink anything, they didn't drink water after their work outs, and they still gain four pounds of muscle in the course of 12 weeks. So that proves, if you start weightlifting, you'll just - you're gonna get bigger and stronger. Interestingly enough, the carbohydrate group and the essential amino acid group gained about the same weight whereas when you combined carbohydrates plus essential -- and when I say weight, this is lean body mass so you know you can read this is muscle.
So the carbohydrate plus amino acid group gained even more weight and this difference was statistically significant efforts. So this group is gaining more weight. And we're talking essential amino acid, this is only six grams. And as all say, there are people out there recommending that you're taking like 50. So this is a relatively low dose of amino acids. So the placebo group, this is 30 minutes after their workout, the cortisol levels, the amount of cortisol, stress hormone, breaking down muscle increased 54%. So you know all that body for lifetime, you're breaking down muscle, your increasing stress hormones. Actually directly after the workout, cortisol was increased 105%. So it went down little by 30 minutes. So carbohydrate still about nothing and then essential amino acids and carb plus essential amino acids were both just as good at suppressing cortisol during their workout.
Okay, so then back to our favorite hormone, insulin. Placebo, as you would expect, you're not taking anything in, so you're not going to be stimulating insulin. Carbohydrates, of course, that's what they do, stimulate insulin, 154%. Then the people that want to sell you amino acids don't tell you this, increased 114% with just six grams of essential amino acids. Now that's great during your workout but you know, may be if you're trying to lose weight and you're taking, you like I'm going to cut down my calories, I am going to take it instead ten grams of - amino acids, three times a day, so I can keep my insulin levels low, you know, may be that's not the reason that you should be doing it, like it works, like people will do that, you know, eat lower calories and taking amino acids throughout the day but not stimulating insulin is not the reason.
And I don't think that megadosing on amino acids during your workout, the reason that it doesn't stimulate insulin is not a very good one either because if just six grams is going to increase insulin a 114%, what's 60 grams is going to do. Then carbohydrates plus essential amino acids sort of what we expected, is going to increase 189%. Okay so then, fat mass, these are essentially -- none of these were statistically different. So this says whether you were taking nothing in during your workout, just carbs, essential amino acids or both, everybody lose the same amount of body fat.
So the idea that taking in this highly insulinogenic drink is going to squash your body's ability to reduce body fat. And these people over the course of 12 weeks were essentially taking in the same amount of calories.
So you know that sort of strike one I guess against that argument.
