Hey guys! Welcome to another coaching lesson today. I am going to introduce you to a super cool technique, it is not something I invented it is something about I have used for a while and it has help me increase my weights from the low end to the scale all the way up to the high end of the scale and it is going to help you decide how much weight you should use. You guys email me all the time and you ask me how much weight should I use, and to be honest I have no idea. That is something that you have to figure out. I am going to give you a little cool technique called pyramiding.
Pyramiding is designed to help you increase your weight throughout the course of a set. And what it is designed to do is help you increase your weights at least 5 pounds from week to week. Let us use this -- in example, let us say you are doing full body work outs. Full body workouts is a great way to apply the pyramiding rep scheme and what you would do is you take 4 sets per muscle group and you will use some sort of scheme, the number of reps in -- all over the concept here. So you could go 12 reps, 10 reps, 8 reps, 6 reps, 4 or you could use a lower rep range like 8 reps, 6 reps, 4 reps, 2 reps. The basic premises is that every set gets heavier and heavier leading out to an all out set. Your final set should be a set that you have never done before.
You should achieve what is called a PB, a personal best. So you should lift the weight you have never done before. So here is what happens. This rep which is four sets of six for 25 pounds, next week your goal is to finish a 30 pounds, finish 5 pounds heavier. So the next, if you end to the gym, you start off on your chest press instead of starting at the 10 you start on the 15. So four set of 12. Four sets of 10. Four sets of 8 and then you are going to grab your 30’s and you are going to go four sets of 6. The week after, again. You are starting to have the 20 this, 20, 25, 30. And three weeks from now you will increase from an all out seven, 25 to 35. Imagine in 12 - 24 weeks from you have started down by the ten’s and eventually you are going to be moving up into 60’s, the 70,s, the 80’s. Obviously you are going to reach your cap, you are going to get your -- where you cannot continue that kind of rep scheme but us worry about that when we get there.
