Now climate control is very important. So how do you stop your house from looking like a factory with a big clunky old radiators? Well I'll tell you how, you build covers.
I'm going to show you how to do an architecturally defined radiator cover that's going to enhance the value of your home. All these in half a day and for less than a $100. Stick around.
When designing a radiator cover you should really take into account the existing architecture, whether it's Victorian, Crossman or even Colonial. Take that style and incorporate it into the design of your radiator cover, so the whole thing blends into the house.
Now the architectural details in this room are colonial. So we're going to have a very sleek simple design that's going to blend in very nicely. Now essentially a radiator cover is a three sided box, I'm going to cut it all out of this one sheet of ply. So a strong part of colonial design is cross braiding. Now we've chosen the crosses because it matches the architectural details in the home.
Easy. I'm going to do eight of those. Alrighty. So we're at an hour and that is the front done. So, that's a two sides cut out. Now, I'm going to cut out a small two inch cut down the bottom to release the heat.
Now we're going to introduce some of the colonial trim and really dress this up, giving it an accent of its own. Now this is a classic example of layering that has two pieces of molding, one piece of just 2 x 1 stock. With laying them creates definition, when you have definition you have the right style.
It's been three hours, I'm going to paint it and then I'm going to put the screen in, it's going to look fantastic. We have got the silver and you've actually got the gold mesh.
See how the handle on this door here is gold. So what we're going to do is tie the whole thing together, so we're going to choose a gold.
Now this radiator was an eye sore, in the middle of the room. Now the radiator cover is a piece of artwork. The $97 and in half a day we've really changed this place.
