How to Build a Bulldog 5x4 Large Format Camera

Despite the fact that most people are now using digital, there are still people that enjoy film based photography. And 5 by 4 inch photography is probably one of the most rewarding. It’s very expensive to buy 5 by 4 camera and that’s why for many years, people have been self building. And there area and have been several manufacturers making cameras in kit form where you can actually assemble them yourself. One of the latest is from Camerabellos.com and it’s called the Bulldog. And we’re gonna have a go of making that today. The Bulldog comes in a very unassuming box. Inside is proper instructions, you see all the pieces are actually precut already for you, which is gonna make it a lot easier. So we don’t need to saw. What we’re gonna do is go through each step using the instruction manual to build it. There’s a list of things that you need, you will also need some PVA wood glue, some epoxy adhesive, some contact adhesive, some sandpaper, they call it class paper, basic cloth here, but I’ll just use some very fine sandpaper. Two millimeter drill and a four millimeter drill. Well that’s it, the Bulldog, finished. Only thing that’s missing now is a lens board and a lens and the film back, it’s a universal type so any can cut film will fit. And there it is, I’m gonna go off and find a lens and then give it a go.
