Female: Okay, we are about to learn how to build a fire for cooking. Now, in my experience, I have had pot spilling, fingers burnt, food being scorched, it has not actually been very nice really. So, what we are going to learn is how to appropriately build a fire, right, so that the food is great and there is no pot spilling or burnt food or water, right?
Dick: We need a very simple set up. First one, is called V-logs then we may add to that a small grate and then after that a larger grate setup for bigger meals, larger parties.
Female: Great, I am really hungry, so I would love to get this going.
Dick: All right, what I like to use are two green logs arranged in a V that gives us room to accommodate a variety of sizes of pans. Now, this I like better than rocks because rocks tend to be unstable, difficult to find flat ones that can be properly arranged and so forth and the other is always there when you are in the woods. We build our fire between the V-logs and then once that is going, we can start to put our pots and pans of different sizes on. Now, if we want to have larger pots and pans on, carrying along a very lightweight small grate to bridge the large part of the V will give us that opportunity. So then, if that is not sufficient or we are carrying a full size grate because we have a larger party or we want to cook larger meals, then we set that up.
Female: So the V-log and the grate are wonderful choice for providing solutions for spilt water, burnt hands and food that is stopping the fire. This is wonderful.
Dick: It is.
Female: Yes, I know you are hungry Dick.
Dick: You are right. It is ready. Let us eat it.
Female: All right.
