Now the cage that we are going to build fits perfectly an inch raised bed. So the first thing you have to do is you have to measure the interior of the raise beds that you want to put the cage into. So I am just going to go and measure the interior of this bed here.
Alright, so I am taking the measurements for the interior of my 8 x 4 raise bed. I am going to take those measurements. I am going to my workshop and I am going to start cutting out all the pieces of wood that I need for my own chicken tractor.
Now the basic thing you need to know about building a chicken tractor is that it is basically a wooden frame. That is what we are starting with. And the version that I have come up with here is a very lightweight version.
Now you can find the exact plans for this for this exact chicken tractor on my website. You can download it as a PDF file.
We are using 2 x 3 lumbers. It is not pressure treated. It is regular building great lumber.
Remember, you do not want to use pressure treated wood when you are dealing with animals or housing animals or on your raise beds, they are going to interact with the soil.
Animals also have the tendency to chew on wood and you do not want that to be ingested by any animals. So, we have got just the regular pine lumber here and I basically laid everything out already and I pre-drilled the holes on the wood.
I am going to start assembling from the rear of the cage first.
And these screws, again, I am using the same similar screws that you used when you are building the raise beds.

So there have been two good things about being able to do construction and knowing how to use the screw gun and all that stuff.
One is that my dad is really proud of me but two is that anytime I do go to my dad’s house now I have to actually picture to do some works. So its got its pluses and minuses.
In order to really center this door in the doorway, what I want to do is I want to measure the inside of the frame right here and that is approximately or rather exactly 41 and a quarter?
(Drilling Sound)
Nice, right.
So my doorway is joined on the end. I have got this other guys are still done and in place. And now, I am going to take my strapping. Now strapping is just thinner wood. It is used for a bunch of different things. It is lighter that is why I am using it.
So I have got my first piece right here,
It is pre drilled. And I am just going to assemble and line up my little frame wood right here,
Underneath the strapping.
