Hi. My name is Roy Niswanger. I’m the guy behind motleypixel.com. Sit in, I’m going to tip to construct a Macro Flash-Tube diffuser for my Macro rig which consist of Canon 30D 430VX speed light and a Canon 100 millimeter macro lens.
First, I want to credit an individual for the flicker forums. It goes by the name of Laura V. He has a post out there with the similar bill and construction using a coca cola can so I definitely want to credit Laura V. His an avid macro photographer, I’ve learned a lot from him so I decided last night that I would pick up a pint can of Bud light here for a longer flash tube.
What I tend to do, because it’s very shinny inside is mount it to the head of the flash and then on the end, I wan to construct some type of a diffusion medium and I decided that this packing foam for electronic boards. Specifically I made it roughly, its going to look something like this. Little orange there, attach it to the flash. Hopefully, it will give a nice soft diffusion lighting, no hard lighting, no hard reflections.
Okay, here you can see the materials that I laid out. I laid out some used stocks small of vice grips, psyche patterns, large needle nose, small needle nose, multi-purpose tool. Of course, this is the material of the foam to kind of show this up a little closer here. It really does defuse the light and channels the light through out the surface. I think that’s going to work very well.
Safety glasses, if I do decide to use the tremble, the file, of course the dock tape and a large aluminum can. There is the end, pull it over, crank inward to make a smooth lip through out the ends. Here’s the black dock tape applied to the flash end and I’m just bending it over the ends here.
I’m going to go ahead and mount the flash tube on like that. That’s going to be a little, little sturdier there so maybe you corporate some Velcro strap here of some sort. For essentially, that cut out has such, I’m going to touch the diffuser just like so.
Last night I did some testing with a single flash tube and take them on this foam diffuser on the end. To were I found out is that it was certainly softening the light, no harsh reflections but I was still getting a lot of heavy top light and so looking at designs such as the empty 24 twin light. I would like to try to have located primarily light and a key light. So get another beer, why ended up doing is cutting out window to primary tube. This is flash head end and then I have to add up another beer can and you know what, you just have to figure it out just from looking here on what I did. But essentially, I did the same thing here by folding over the end but I cork it out such that my little tabs here so flex around this opening.
I’m going to set that in just like that so I hope you can see well here but hopefully what’s going to happen is the flash head will be here and we’ll have a slight down angle. Then I’m going to have an exterminate with the note job here. Some type of side diffuser and then up. I need a primary diffuser; I’m going to get that whirl.
Okay, here’s my first photo type so being imagine shooting that the subject note job here will a side light and this is will be the kier primary light here coming out of the front for the subject. I think what we’re working nice is if I need to switch the situation. I could slight it off the flash and put on the flash as such, adjust this we’re I need to adjust it.
