Angelica: Hi welcome to watch mojo.com I am your host Angelica and today I am at the opening of Lugarso’s Ice Bar. In outside Turas that is completely constructed out of ice and it brings a whole new definition to on the rocks. So I am here with Chris at the opening of Lugarso Ice Bar and its chilly there is chest nuts being served and a hot wine as well?
Chris Smith: Yes.
Angelica: Oysters?
Chris Smith: Oysters as well.
Angelica: Oysters on a half shell?
Chris Smith: Yes.
Angelica: Perfect. So about how long does it take to construct something like this?
Chris Smith: Well the guy came Sunday morning. With the blocks of ice and he worked day in, day night so he came at around six o’clock every morning and finish at around five o’clock every night? And then he left this afternoon at three o’ clock. He had a team of two people and then towards the end, it was just him.
Angelica: Is there an ideal outside temperature because we are outside that needs to be stabilize and support something?
Chris Smith: Yes well this would be the ideal temperature except if it is really cold. I do say minus five and probably the ideal temperature.
Angelica: Was it late starting because we have a little bit of a milder temperature?
Chris Smith: Yes we wanted to start it at the beginning of January but unfortunately because of the weather it was like plus five, plus 10 degrees so it was not cold enough to sustain this.
Angelica: And about how long would it last?
Chris Smith: This hopefully because actually the way it is constructed this year hopefully it is going to last a longer than last year so it is probably we could give it one and a half to two months.
Angelica: Okay and then how does one gets rid of? You just bring a big heater and—
Chris Smith: No, well it melts with time. The ice gets more see true as it melts and then at a certain stage we have to make a decision to take it off.
Angelica: Okay.
Chris Smith: And we come to demolish it, and it melts.
Angelica: Like with the cream?
Chris Smith: No with hammers and stuff [laughter] it is fun.
Angelica: Obviously body heat would fracture in a little bit so is there a maximum number of people that can be in here at a given time or it does no matter?
Chris Smith: Not really, not a lot of people would stand out here for a quite a long time anyway.
Angelica: Right---
Chris Smith: So we pretty, I would say the most people we have out here were probably was 30 to 40 people, but it is pretty much the capacity of the Turas with the ice bar.
Angelica: Okay---
Chris Smith: But body heat would not really affect anything because it is pretty cold.
Angelica: And how about people who worked here because obviously you have to stand here for more than a couple of minutes at a time?
Chris Smith: Yes well there is a lot of shift rotations yes---two to three minutes at a time.
Angelica: Do they provide you with these swank fur coats?
Chris Smith: For tonight yes --- we have very nice warm, warm fur coats.
Angelica: After that you are on you own?
Chris Smith: No we have fur coats as well but these are quite nice.
Angelica: Perfect so it is been a great opening night then?
Chris Smith: Yes it has been pretty good so far and—
Angelica: Well thank you so much Chris.
Chris Smith: My pleasure.
