Natalie: I know, I've heard a million times of poor people saying eating healthy is so expensive I cant afford it, well I am here today, to make a video about shopping smart ways that you can eat healthy without breaking the bank and you don't have to frequent the ninety nine cent manual.
Now lets not confuse expense and inconvenience because let's face it, it is very convenient to go to the restaurant and jive through the drive through and pick something up and not have to cook anything for dinner, but the point is, is that its more expensive if you eat out then if you go to the grocery store and buy the raw ingredients and cook something at home.
Restaurants for drain your bank and you typically will eat stuff that you normally wouldn't eat if you prepare something at home, you are going to may be tempted to buy that or get that fried food or the creamy dessert or something that you would normally eat, and then not only that you will tend to eat more at the restaurants, than you would at home.
Use those coupons, I have a quick story for you, last week I went grocery shopping and stocked up after thanks giving my kitchen was completely empty. So I spend some times cutting out coupons looking out websites for products that I needed and got to the register and save $ 22 with all my coupons. So it is possible to shop in an expensive grocery store and save money to fill in your budget.
Normally that this grocery stores are not carrying coupon book lets right of the front door so you walk in and you get your coupon books and then also companies are now putting coupons on their websites so that you'll try their products and then here is another tip don't cut your coupons up before you have your grocery list because if you are cutting coupons out for stuff that you didn't eat you are not saving money you are actually spending more money. And at last but not least use your coupons are stores that will double or triple your coupons because in you're saving even more.
Frequent your farmers market, actually go to the farmers market to purchase a lot of foods and you may not even know that this exists for that is even worth going. But our farmers market actually has rules and rows and rows of local growing you know companies or farmers that will bring their products and sell them to you, so one of the benefits is that you are actually getting local products and local produce, so you are supporting the economy but then also there is actual benefits for eating the foods that are produced in your region.
Like if you consume honey that is it from the geographic area that you live in you actually can, can alleviate some of your seasonal allergies if you consume the local honey, so not only this farmers markets provide produce which a lot of people just associate markets with produce but actually they are not carry a lot of meats and raw meats, spices and seasonings low products dairy I mean its, its really kind of bigger and bigger as the years go on more, more as add as this farmers markets. So the food is cheaper and its freshers so frequent your farmers market.
Don't purchase can be nearly packed foods, okay a lot people complain and I just cant spend that much money on healthy foods, okay here is an example for you, you go to the grocery store and you want to have hamburgers for dinner a lot of people will go purchase the prepackaged you know round flavored seasoned hamburger patties and I got it do it on the grill were you are going to pay a $, $ 50 more then the raw hamburger meal, and in it only it take you about 30 seconds to may be a minute, just throw in some spices and mashed the meat out and make your patties, so if you are purchasing those prepackaged you know pre made hamburger patties and complaining about the expensive eating healthy. Well you think again because you I think you are confusing cost and convenience.
Buy in bulk when possible, so if you are at the grocery store and say you want some yogurt, well it would be really easy to reach for the six pack of individual yogurt but if you look at the prize and then look at the big container you know that the 32 ounce, you know plain or vanilla yogurt compare to the prize of the individual yogurt, you are going to pay so much less if you buy in bulk, and not applies to a lot of different types of foods. So in a grocery store start up buy bulk when possible but don't buy bulk and then buy more than you need, because then you are going to end up wasting it and you know wasting your money anyways. So pay attention to what food to often and what quantities because you are going to pay more if it's smaller packaging.
Eat foods that are in season. Now this is a really great tip because If you pay attention when you are in the grocery store to the advertisements and the prizes of especially produce you'll see and I'll give you hints as to what some seasons so right now we are in the winter months if you buy the winter squashes you know like the butter nut squash, the egg white squash, pumpkin those types of things are in season right now, so they are going to be lower price so if you are looking advertisements or If you are you know waking through grocery store just be mindful of when foods are un sale because typically that does mean that they are in season. And then when you are eating fruit in season typically they are higher and nutritional value they taste better because that's a winter suppose to be produced, and then you are going to save money as well.
Plan your menus in advance. So before you go to the grocery store, make sure that you know what you are going to make cooking that week and then write of your grocery list and then when you have your grocery list, you better eat before you go to grocery store, because if you are hungry and you walk in that grocery store well you are going to throw all kinds of stuff in your basket and then you are going to go home and realize I don't need all this stuff, but it was because you are hungry.
So first eat before you go to the grocery store. And second buy only what is on your grocery list, because if you are going to the grocery store and you like okay I will need 5 things but then you come home with 20 things, well you know not only did you spend more money but you might even because you did need them in the first place.
Five more whole foods, now I did make another video going in to more these how about is called whole foods verses process foods so please watch that video its really a great video. And then the reason why you want to buy whole foods verses process foods is because you are going to save money If you stay only out side of the grocery store you are going to hit your produce your fruits and vegetable your raw meat your dairy products and those types of things are rather going to be you know little bit more inconvenient because you may have to chop that potato or you know dice up the tomatoes or something like that, but you are going to save money because you can buy in bulk and you can buy exactly what you need and you are not paying for advertising cost packaging cost, you know all those types of things that are associated with package and process foods. And then not only that home foods are very more healthier than if you buy processed foods.
Now the point of all this information is your health worth it, and I can talk to a guy he is in the hospital you know just had a heart attack kind of on his death bed his doctor says we are all telling something you are going to die soon, that guy is a lot more willing to do it ever it takes for his budget to change his diet, so really what it pulls down to is what is your priority what is important to you,. If you are making misuse is that eating healthy is too expensive, yeah you may have to cut expenses some more else, you may not be able to go to Starbucks every day like you want or, you know you may need the down size or you know buy a cheaper car, because food is a necessity and there is other things in life that are unnecessary but we spend a lot more money on those things.
So my message today is eating healthy just not have to cost your nominal like, see you next time.
