When you know someone really well, it is really fine to come up with the best possible gift for the holidays or for their birthday. I love thinking about my friend or family member in coming up with the perfect thing to give them but sometimes I have to buy gifts for people I do not that well and I do not know what they would like. In that case, there is nothing better than a prepaid gift card. People prefer a branded gift card to cash or a check. It shows a little bit more thought. A gift card is a wonderful way to get someone to try something new. So, for example, if you know someone who has been talking about wanting to try cooking and has not cooked and does not have the right equipment, getting them as gift card to somewhere like willing to know more or another place where they can buy cookware would be a wonderful way to get them started.
A wonderful thing about gift card is that they can be sort of a token gift. So, for example, if you are invited to someone’s house for a holiday and you are not sure if someone is going to buy you a gift. So, you do not want to over give but if they do get you something or anyway you are just in a giving spirit and you do want to give them something a gift card is a wonderful way to go. I spent Christmas with someone else’s family this past year and I bought their grandmother their gift card to a bookstore and she was just totally blown away that we even thought of her. She loved it.
Here is a tip for you. Buy a bunch of gift cards. Have them around. Keep them in your purse or in your wallet. So, incase you are in a position where you need a gift, you always have one at the ready. Hey, if you have those gift cards for a while, make sure you check the expiration date before you give them as a gift. There will be nothing worst than giving someone an expired gift card. Here are some people that would be great to give a gift card to, students. In that way you make sure you know that they are spending on something they really need.
I know that gift cards are not that personal but you could personalize them. Put them in a great card that you buy that is perfect for someone or make a card for someone and put a gift card right inside. In that way, it is a gift made specifically for the person that you are giving it to and not so generic.
